"Mentoring the Next Generation of Building Professionals" is the theme for Building Safety Month Week One. Over the next 12 years, the industry will experience a loss of 80 percent of the existing skilled workforce. Employers are seeking qualified building trade professionals to fill the positions of retiring employees, and will be vying to hire trained professionals to reinforce their decreasing workforce and to prevent a major job shortage in the building industry. The first week of Building Safety Month addresses what can be done to help preserve the industry's workforce and maintain our high standards for building safety. |

Interesting global construction trivia. The "Code of Hammurabi" from 1780 B.C. has the first known written building code provision. It basically stated that if a building was constructed so poorly that it collapsed and killed the owner, then the builder was put to death. However, the Code had a possible out for builders; if they could survive a swim in the dangerous Euphrates River, they were vindicated. |
