ICC & PEC sign agreement to modernize Pakistan's building codes The International Code Council signed an agreement with the Pakistan Engineering Council to support its efforts to update the Building Code of Pakistan. The ICC-PEC agreement builds on the Code Council's long and successful relationship in working with the government of Pakistan on its building code efforts. It grants PEC the ability to use ICC's 2015 International Codes to promote building safety, innovation and efficiency in Pakistan. |

Significant changes to the 2015 IBC To ensure that the accessible lavatory is available to all users of the toilet room at any time the room is open, a modification to Section 1109.2.3 (Accessible Lavatories) in the 2015 International Building Code states that an accessible lavatory must now be located in a common area of the toilet room or bathing facility. |

International Code Council Government Relations Senior Vice President Sara Yerkes received the Building Officials Association of Florida's President's Award during the 2017 BOAF Conference & Expo. Sara Yerkes recognized for advocacy work in Florida International Code Council Government Relations Senior Vice President Sara Yerkes received the Building Officials Association of Florida's President's Award in recognition of her advocacy work in Tallahassee with BOAF and other stakeholders during the 2017 BOAF Conference & Expo in Daytona Beach. Yerkes formed a coalition to represent the interests of the building community and to provide education and outreach to the citizens of Florida about the importance of keeping the Florida Building code current and strong. She encouraged all stakeholders, opponents and proponents of pending legislation to speak to each other about their concerns in order to find a resolution to avoid the Florida Building code from stagnating on its current edition and that would have placed the state's adoption cycle on a five- to six-year cycle. The legislation was amended to keep the Florida Building Code set to update on a three-year cycle based on the changes made to the International Codes and NFPA codes. |

GSIA conference mixes education & fun in Saint Simons The Georgia State Inspectors Association (GSIA) held its annual education event July 23–26 in Saint Simons, Ga. The week of educational classes in a family-type atmosphere was mixed with great food, hospitality and a little golf at the Sea Palms Resort championship golf course. The chapter once again supported the United Craftsmen Children's Shoe Drive charity in its efforts to provide less fortunate children with shoes for Christmas. |

BIASEW to commemorate 50 years of protecting the community Celebrating 50 years of engagement in the construction industry, the Building Inspectors Association of Southeastern Wisconsin (BIASEW) will celebrate its 50th anniversary on Sept. 23. Dedicated to providing information, code direction and consultation for the protection of the health and safety of the public, the 150 building inspection officials of the BIASEW chapter cover eight counties and currently represent approximately 45 communities. |
