Improved Electronic Voter Validation System to debut this Spring.

The Code Council's Electronic Voter Validation site is an easy-to-use, online portal to check and update your 2017 Governmental Member Voting Representative (GMVR) information. Code Council staff are currently working to improve your experience with this service, so we have temporarily closed the site. Your ICC Member status and 2017 GMVR information must be up-to-date in order to participate and vote at the Annual Business Meeting in Columbus, Ohio, in September. The site will reopen this Spring, allowing plenty of time to update your GMVR information and designate voters.

ICC Board verifies 2016 Group B Final Action OGCV process.

In accordance with Section 10.0 of CP28 Code Development, the ICC Board of Directors has verified a valid 2016 Online Governmental Consensus Vote (OGCV) process as certified by the Validation Committee. The Final Action on all 2016 Group B code change proposals, including the vote tallies from the OGCV, are available here. All totaled, there were 577 code change proposals considered during the OGCV.

The International Code Council and ICC Evaluation Service had another successful year exhibiting at the International Builders' Show (IBS) and the Kitchen and Bath Industry Show (KBIS). As major sponsors of the event, a large delegation of ICC/ICC-ES staff, including ICC Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims, executive staff and board members, participated in a number of Design and Construction Week activities. ICC-ES sponsored the 2017 Metrostudy Housing Industry Outlook Seminar, which analyzed economic trends impacting the housing industry, growth forecasts in housing activity, pricing trends shaping demand in 2017, and winning the hearts and wallets of millennials.

ICC to present at premier event on Americans with Disabilities Act.

The International Code Council is participating in the National ADA Symposium as an exhibitor and a presenter on topics related to accessibility in buildings. Classes will include a wide variety of topics dealing with accessibility. This training offers a wealth of training and sells out quickly. Early bird registration is open now until March 31.

Leadership Summit explores potential of strategic ICC–NCARB relationship.

What began as a series of informal conversations between International Code Council Chief Executive Officer Dominic Sims and Board of Directors President Dwayne Garriss with National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) Chief Executive Officer Michael Armstrong led to a Leadership Summit to discuss the potential for developing a strategic relationship to advance the mutual interests of code officials and the architectural profession.

RESNET forms Emerging Leadership Council.

Just like the International Code Council's new Emerging Leaders Membership Council — which supports its Safety 2.0 Building Careers for Today's Generation initiative — RESNET is turning it's focus on the new generation of leadership. RESNET voted to create an Emerging Leadership Council to advise on how to effectively recruit, mentor and motivate the organization's emerging leadership. View the infographic.

Significant changes to the 2015 International Residential Code.

Retaining walls, freestanding walls not supported at the top, with more than 48 inches of unbalanced backfill must be designed by an engineer. Retaining walls resisting additional lateral loads and with more than 24 inches of unbalanced backfill must also be designed in accordance with accepted engineering practice.

ICC-ES issues report for insulated concrete form wall structure.

ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) issued ESR-2092 to NUDURA Inc. for its insulated concrete form wall system, which is used as stay-in-place formwork for structural concrete, load-bearing and non-load bearing, below grade and above grade walls.

LA Basin Chapter installs new officers.

The Los Angeles Basin Chapter held its Annual Business Meeting and Banquet Jan. 21 in Universal City, Calif. Recognizing outstanding member achievements over the past year, Chapter Officers presented the Lifetime Honorary Award to Richard Lucas and Lifetime Achievement Award to Truong Huyhn. The President's Award was presented to Osama Younan, Executive Officer at the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety, for selfless service to the Chapter and building safety industry. In addition, newly elected Chapter officers were installed and Outgoing President J. Addison Smith was recognized by the Board for his significant contributions to the Chapter, and was presented with awards from the California Building Officials and the Code Council Family of Companies.
