Code Council joins other stakeholders in celebrating the passage of the Federal Cost Share Reform Incentive

The International Code Council applauds the inclusion of the Federal Cost Share Reform Incentive as a provision of the Bipartisan Budget Act of 2018, passed by the U.S. House of Representatives and Senate on February 9. This provision encourages states to adopt the latest building codes, incentivizes states to invest in the resiliency of their communities, and includes additional disaster relief funds of nearly $90 billion. Call for ICC awards nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for International Code Council awards to honor individuals and organizations for their accomplishments and service to ICC and the building safety industry. These awards will be presented at various events, including, but not limited to, the 2018 ICC Annual Conference Oct. 21–24 in Richmond, Va. The deadline to submit nominations for this year's ICC Awards is March 1, 2018. Nominate now.

ICC Honorary Members call for nominations

The International Code Council Board of Directors is requesting nominations for 2018 Honorary Members. An Honorary Member is a person who has rendered outstanding service to the Code Council. The Honorary Member Committee will consider submitted nominations when compiling its list of candidates. The board will present its list of potential Honorary Members for approval by Governmental Member Voting Representatives in attendance at the 2018 Annual Business Meeting in Richmond, Va. Building Officials Association of Louisiana first to proclaim Building Safety Month 2018

During May, the Code Council's 60,000-plus members, along with other professionals in the construction and design community, will conduct events, including school assemblies, hosting information booths at builder supply stores, and implementing proclamation signing ceremonies to increase awareness about the importance of building and remodeling to modern codes and standards. Demonstrating its partnership with the Code Council and investment in community safety and economic growth, the Building Officials Association of Louisiana recently joined the outreach and have proclaimed May 2018 as Building Safety Month.

New paper explains importance of consistent code adoption cycle

Many jurisdictions in the U.S. have put building codes and standards in place to protect the health, safety and welfare of its citizens. There are benefits and challenges to adopting codes at regular intervals that coincide with the update of the model codes. A new paper by the National Council on Building Codes and Standards provides a brief overview of the adoption cycle process and highlights both the concerns and the benefits of adopting current codes and standards. February memorializes the African-American engineers who helped build the Alaska Highway

Sara Yerkes named to Multihazard Mitigation Council board

Sara Yerkes, senior vice president of Government Relations at the International Code Council was recently named an At-Large member for the Multihazard Mitigation Council's Board of Direction. She served as chair and the Code Council's representative on the National Institute of Building Sciences Consultative Council, and on the National Council of Governments on Building Codes and Standards' Existing Buildings Committee. Significant changes to the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code

An addition to Section 409.7 (Shutoff Valve Support for Tubing Systems) of the 2018 International Fuel Gas Code states that shutoff valves installed in tubing systems shall be rigidly and securely supported independently of the tubing. Read more.

ICC-ES PMG issues first WaterSense certification for spray sprinkler bodies

The ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas (PMG) Listing Program issued its first listing report with the WaterSense certification for spray sprinkler bodies to Hunter Industries.
