Group C Committee Action Hearings Begin Sunday

 

The 2014 Group C Committee Action Hearings begin Sunday, April 27, and continue through Saturday, May 3, at the Cook Convention Center in Memphis, Tenn. The hearings offer Code Council Members and others in the construction industry an opportunity to voice their opinions and offer expertise to help ensure the 2015 edition of the International Green Construction Code effectively promotes safety, resiliency, sustainability and energy efficiency.

First-Ever cdpACCESS Online Voting Open May 19-30

cdpACCESS, ICC's new code development tool, will set another milestone when online voting is held May 19-30 on assembly floor motions from the Group C Committee Action Hearings (CAHs) in Memphis. In the past, assembly motions were voted on at the hearings. For the Group C CAHs, the process will be revised so that anyone in the assembly can make a motion if they disagree with the committee’s action. If the motion is seconded, the moderator will announce that the vote will occur online through cdpACCESS. Continue reading story





ASHRAE Joins NAHB, ICC to Develop New National Green Building Standard
The National Association of Home Builders, ASHRAE and the Code Council have agreed to jointly develop the 2015 edition of the ICC/ASHRAE 700 National Green Building Standard. It will be the third edition of the standard and the first time that ASHRAE has partnered on its development. “As one of the nation’s leading societies for building technology, ASHRAE brings years of experience and knowledge to the table, particularly in the areas of indoor environmental quality and energy efficiency,” said ICC Board President Stephen Jones, CBO, and CEO Dominic Sims, CBO, in a joint statement. NGBS Consensus Committee, Task Groups to Hold First Meeting June 9-10
The Consensus Committee and Task Groups for the development of the 2015 edition of the National Green Building Standard will hold their first meeting June 9-10 at the National Housing Center in Washington, D.C. The purpose of the meeting is to orient all participants in the update process, initiate Task Group review of proposed changes to the 2015 edition, and to discuss options on several key areas of the standard. Solar Standards Development Continues Next Month
The ICC Solar Thermal Standard Consensus Committee (IS-STSC) will hold its fourth meeting by teleconference May 6-7 to continue the development of the drafts of two solar standards. ICC 900/SRCC 300-201X Standard for Thermal Systems will be discussed on May 6 and ICC 901/SRCC 100-201X Standard for Solar Thermal Collectors will be discussed on May 7. Read the meeting notice.


Consensus Committee to Consider Public Comments on ICC A117.1 Draft
The ICC (ASC A117) Consensus Committee on Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities will meet July 14-16 to consider public comments on the first public draft of the 2015 edition of ICC A117.1. The meeting will be held at the U.S. Access Board in Washington, D.C. Read the meeting notice.



Accessibility: Do You Ever Think About Baby Changing Stations?
There are a lot of accessibility issues in public restrooms, but do you ever think about baby changing stations? There are two things to look at regarding accessibility: if a mother or father who uses a wheelchair needs access to a baby changing station, what are the necessary technical criteria; and can that baby station be located within an accessible stall, a family assisted-use bathroom or a single-occupant bathroom without causing a problem with access to the plumbing fixtures? From the Trenches: What Happens if Lateral Bracing is Not Correctly Installed?
Lateral bracing was a topic of discussion during last month's Region VIII meeting. Tom Coghill, Building Safety & Permits Directors for James City County, Va., provided some examples of what can go wrong when the bracing is not correctly installed, as his jurisdiction found out with a 60-foot span piggy-back truss system that was built in 2007. New Online Electronic Plan Review Service is Coming in 2014
Code Council Technical Services staff recently met with representatives from Avolve Software Corporation to discuss the implementation of ePlan, ICC's new online electronic plan review service. Staff training will be held in June and, following some technical upgrades, the new system should be available later in 2014. Continue reading story


ICC Seeking Volunteers to Serve On Committees for the 2015-2017 Code Cycle
ICC is seeking volunteers to serve on Code Committees, the Code Correlation Committee and Code Interpretation Committees for the 2015-2017 Code Development Cycle. Both new and veteran committee members must complete an application. Applications for committee service are due by June 2. Click here to apply.
