Energy Efficiency a Major Focus during Final Action Hearings in Charlotte

Energy efficiency—a global topic on several fronts including cost savings, reduced energy usage, conservation of natural resources and the impact of energy usage on environment—will be a major focus during Group B of the Code Council's Final Action Hearings in Charlotte, North Carolina. The hearings will be held in conjunction with ICC's Annual Conference, October 24-31, at the Charlotte Convention Center.

ADA Symposium Provides a Variety of Accessibility Viewpoints

More than 580 attendees of the 15th National ADA Symposium learned the latest on a wide range of topics dealing with all aspects of inclusion for persons with disabilities. Participants included persons with mobility, hearing and vision impairments; cognitive disabilities; and some that are temporary able-bodied. Code Council Senior Staff Architects Kim Paarlberg and Jay Woodward offered five presentations at the four-day event.

48 Earn Coveted MCP Status

The achievement of the Master Code Professional (MCP) designation from the International Code Council is the highest level of ICC Certification and has become the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the building and fire safety profession. Currently, there are less than 600 MCP professionals worldwide, and their achievements are a benefit to the code enforcement profession, as well as their communities.

Moore Thanked for Continued Support of Code Grant Legislation

While in Washington, D.C., Code Council CEO Rick Weiland (right) thanked U.S. Representative Dennis Moore for his continued support of ICC's Code Grant Bill (S. 970/H.R. 2246), which authorizes funds for jurisdictions to hire code officials, boost the capacity of their code administration offices, and to provide professional development opportunities for their employees. Urge your representative of Congress to support and co-sponsor the Code Grant Bill.

Coalition Formed to Combat Urban-Wildland Area Wildfire Threats

As the U.S. population grows, housing, offices, schools and other structures needed to support an urban environment are being constructed closer than ever to wildland areas, increasing the danger of exposure to an increased number of wildfires that threaten life and property. The National Wildland Urban Interface Council—an alliance developed by ICC and the National Association of Resource Conservation & Development Councils—will address those challenges.
