1,500 Public Comments Received and Reviewed at IGCC Hearings in Chicago

The Sustainable Building Technical Committee (SBTC) heard and took action on more than 1,500 public comments on Public Version 1.0 of the International Green Construction Code (IGCC) during hearings held August 14-22 in Chicago. Comments received and testimony presented at the hearings will be the basis for Public Version 2.0 of the IGCC, scheduled for release in November. The IGCC focuses on increasing building performance and goes hand-in-hand with prescriptive codes such as the International Energy Conservation, Building and Residential Codes.

NY Fire Administrator Earns
Fire & Life Safety Award

New York Deputy State Fire Administrator John Mueller has been named the recipient of the International Association of Fire Chiefs 2010 Excellence in Fire & Life Safety Award sponsored by the Code Council. New DOJ Accessibility Guidelines Reference IBC

The newest accessibility standards to be enforced by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will include means of egress requirements from the International Building Code (IBC). DOJ has adopted the 2004 ADA/ABA Accessibility Guidelines, which will be called the 2010 Accessibility Standards. The 2010 Accessibility standard references the Accessible Means of Egress section of the IBC developed by the Code Council. Click to continue.


Group B Final Action Hearing Schedule Announced for Charlotte

The Code Council's Group B Final Action Hearings will be held in conjunction with the 2010 ICC Annual Conference, October 24-31, at the Charlotte Convention Center. The Group B hearings will result in the 2012 International Codes, and give you the opportunity to voice your opinions about proposed code changes. View the schedule.


Five Years after Hurricane Katrina: Are We Better Prepared?

The Institute for Business & Home Safety analyzed the quality of building codes in place along the Gulf Coast before and after Hurricane Katrina. The report praises the adoption of the Louisiana Uniform Construction Code, which is based on the Code Council's 2006 International Building and Residential Codes, but identifies areas for improvement in Mississippi and Alabama.
