2012/2013 Code Development Schedule Fully Implements 12-Month Cycles

In 2009, the Code Council Board of Directors presented a plan to streamline the ICC Code Development Process, starting with the 2009/2010 schedule that transitioned the process from two, 18-month cycles to a 12-month cycle. The 2012/2013 schedule will be the first to fully implement the change where the International Codes are distributed into two, 12-month cycles: Group A Codes in 2012 and Group B Codes in 2013.

Code Council Celebrates 50 Years
of Accessibility Standard

In the 1950s, it became clear that architectural barriers made it difficult for people with disabilities to access everyday opportunities of education, recreation and employment. At the request of a Presidential committee, a diverse team of professionals gathered to solve the problem, which resulted in the 1961 publication of the A117.1 Standard's first edition. The Code Council has served as the A117.1 Secretariat since 1987.

Confirm New Membership Information to Vote at Hearings, ABM

In accordance with Council Policy 28, new and updated membership information must be received no less than 10 days prior to the first day of the meeting for ICC Members to exercise their voting privileges, both for the 2011 Final Action Hearings and Annual Business Meeting. The deadline is close of business today. Confirm your ICC Membership information to vote at the hearings.


ICC Applauds California Governor's Reinforcement of Building Standards Process

The International Code Council commended California Governor Edmund Brown Jr. for vetoing Assembly Bill 275 that sought to adopt an interim supplement for rainwater capture. The Code Council advocated defeat of the proposed legislation because it violated California’s established code review and adoption process. Click here to read more.


15 Earn Coveted ICC Master Code Professional Status

The achievement of the Master Code Professional (MCP) designation from the International Code Council is the highest level of ICC Certification and has become the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the building and fire safety profession. Currently, there are less than 600 MCP professionals worldwide, and their achievements are a benefit to the code enforcement profession, as well as their communities.

 


  ICC Commissioning Guideline Available for Public Comment
The Code Council has released the ICC Commissioning Guideline for a 30-day public comment period. The purpose of the guideline is not to define what commissioning is but rather to provide regulators and third parties with a guide on how to apply building commissioning to satisfy regulatory requirements and outline the skill sets necessary for commissioning activities. The deadline for comments is October 27.

  NAHB, BOMA Confirm Support for Code Development Process
After a series of meetings with representatives from the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) and the Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), both organizations have confirmed their support for the changes to the Code Council's Code Development Process. Earlier this year, the ICC Board of Directors adopted all recommendations from its Code Development Review Ad-Hoc Committee (CDRAC) along with two additional recommendations from the Code Appeals Board not addressed in the CDRAC report. Key CDRAC items address assembly action, ethics, hearing location, private funding, eligibility, multiple agencies, and remote participation and eVoting. Click to continue.

  Code Council Supports Dismissal of Charges in Colorado Criminal Case
The International Code Council has added its support to a "friend of the court" legal brief that supports protecting building inspectors and other public employees from criminal prosecution related to job duties when acting in good faith and without malice. The Colorado case involves a criminal negligence claim against a retired building inspector. To read the brief, click here.

When the United States celebrated World Standards Day October 13-14 in Washington, D.C.—with the theme Advancing Safety and Sustainability Standards Worldwide—the International Code Council was much more than a sponsor and exhibitor; it participated as a pioneer and partner in the global mission of safe and sustainable construction.

  Code Council and ASHRAE Partner on Energy-Saving Publication
With safe and sustainable construction near the top of the national and global construction agenda, the International Code Council and the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) have collaborated to create a publication with the most innovative energy-efficiency requirements for residential and commercial buildings. This new publication contains both the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) and ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2010 Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings in one volume to help ensure newly built and renovated buildings are in compliance with the latest codes and standards.

  ICC Foundation Announces 94 Code of Honor Scholarship Winners
The International Code Council Foundation (ICC Foundation) revealed the 2011 Code of Honor Scholarship winners. Ninety-four Code Council Governmental Member Voting Representatives will be attending the ICC Annual Conference and Final Action Hearings in Phoenix. This record number of scholarships awarded is possible because of contributions from organizations, including the American Gas Association, Code Council Board of Directors, EFIS Industry Members Association, National Multi Housing Council, Single Ply Roofing Industry, Site Services and the Southern Nevada Chapter of ICC.

  U.S. EPA Recognizes ICC-ES as Certification Body for the EPA Seal
ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) has been recognized by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) as a Certification Body for the Seal & Insulate with ENERGY STAR Program. This program applies to residential insulation intended for use in whole wall, ceiling, roof deck and floor systems.

  LA Basin Chapter Recognizes IAS Fabricator Accreditation Program
The Los Angeles Basin Chapter of the International Code Council has made the recommendation to its 90-plus building department members to accept the International Accreditation Service (IAS) accreditation program to approve fabricators that work in their jurisdictions. The accreditation program is based on the International Building Code Chapter 17 requirements for fabricators of structural steel, reinforced and precast/prestressed concrete, wood wall panels and metal building systems.
