ICC Re-engineers Code Councils; Expands
Code Action Committee Structure;
Calls for Committees

New Membership Councils along with a multi-disciplinary Codes and Standards Council will continue to broaden participation in ICC technical committees or councils. To increase the quality of code change proposals, the Code Action Committee structure has been expanded. And, applications are being accepted for service on ICC Committees and Councils. You Can Help Shape the 2012 Codes

Online registration is now open for the ICC Code Development Hearings in Dallas. The hearings will offer safe and sustainable building professionals, and swimming pool and spa builders, an opportunity to help shape the 2012 International Green Construction Code and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code. This event is an excellent way for building professionals to learn more about the codes, get involved in the code development process, and be heard. Register now.


I-Codes Could Play Major Role in Obama's Better Buildings Initiative

The Code Council expects codes developed by its members to play a major role in any push for greater energy efficiency, including meeting the goals of the newly unveiled "Better Buildings Initiative" introduced recently by President Barack Obama. ICC's codes, adopted and enforced in jurisdictions throughout the United States, address the initiative's focus on improving energy efficiency in commercial buildings across the country. New DOJ Reviews to Include
2010 ADA Standard

Codes and standards developed by the International Code Council are referenced in the newest federal accessibility regulations. The 2010 ADA Standard references the International Building Code for accessible means of egress requirements. Beginning March 15, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) will review construction projects for compliance using either the 1994 ADAAG or 2010 ADA Standard for Accessible Design regulations.


Replicable Buildings Guideline Reduces Costs, Speeds Approvals

The Guideline for Replicable Buildings is the first in a series of Code Council guidelines displaying that replicable buildings—construction plans for structures that have been reviewed and deemed code compliant by a designated expert and accepted by the governing authority—are important to corporations and chains that construct similar or identical buildings across the country.   Former ICC Board President Appointed South Carolina Fire Marshal
South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley has appointed former Code Council Board of Directors President Adolf Zubia as the new State Fire Marshal. Zubia, who has more than 23 years experience in fire and emergency services, served as ICC Board President in 2008-2009. "We're pleased that Adolf Zubia has agreed to serve as Fire Marshal because he strikes the perfect balance between protecting the safety and needs of our fire service members and strengthening our businesses," Governor Haley said. IAFC Board Takes Action on Code Organization Relationships
The International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) Board of Directors has voted to support continued and enhanced relationships with the International Code Council (ICC). With a majority of U.S. jurisdictions using the International Fire Code (IFC) and other related codes, and a growing number of fire chiefs actively supporting the family of I-Codes, this action demonstrates the significant contribution the I-Codes make to firefighter safety and the goals of the IAFC.
