Jurisdictions Adopt I-Codes to Create Safer, More Sustainable Communities

Adopting the I-Codes reduces costs by use of consistent, coordinated building regulations that allow for new products and innovative technologies. While every state, most federal agencies, and a growing number of nations around the world use many of the I-Codes, adoptions of the latest versions of the I-Codes have recently occurred in Maine, Ohio, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York and Washington, including the International Building, Fire, Energy Conservation, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fuel Gas, Private Sewage Disposal and Property Maintenance Codes. Dallas Building Tour Focuses
on Sustainability

Delegates can learn about the local architecture and code challenges of sustainable buildings by participating in the Dallas Building Tour during the Code Development Hearings. Participants will see firsthand how architects and builders are bringing more sustainable buildings to the Dallas area, and tour these facilities with individuals who have extensive code knowledge. ICC Invited Back to National
ADA Symposium

For a fourth time, the ICC Membership will be represented by staff at the National ADA Symposium. The Code Council has been invited to the 2011 National ADA Symposium to provide a variety of training on accessibility and ICC's coordinated efforts with federal requirements. The event will be held May 8-11 in Las Vegas.


ICC's Bailey Presented National RC&D Outstanding Partnership Award

Dan Bailey (left), Director of the Code Council's Wildland Fire Program, received a Foundation Award from the National Association of Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Councils during its 12th Annual Leadership Forum in Washington, D.C. DOE's Minos Among Guest Speakers at
Green Building Focus Conference

Scott Minos, Senior Policy and Communications Specialist for the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy, is among the guest speakers at next month's Green Building Focus Conference in Charlotte. The Code Council is seeking proposals for the Cracker Barrel session at the 2011 Annual Conference in Phoenix. The Cracker Barrel is a round table discussion presented during lunch.   Albany City Council Backs Building Official
After three months of appeals, the Albany City (Oregon) Council voted five to one to uphold a dangerous-building declaration from city Building Official Melanie Adams on a rental property after city inspectors documented 29 alleged code violations that deemed the house "manifestly unsafe" and a fire hazard.   Deadline Nears for Inaugural Public Official Award
Nominations for the first-ever ICC Public Official of the Year Award close on April 15. The award will recognize senior governmental officials, elected or appointed, for their contribution to building safety. The Award will be presented in May during Building Safety Month.
