ICC Board to Consider Recommendations to
Strengthen the Code Development Process

After more than a year of discussions and research led by a 14-person Code Development Review Ad-Hoc Committee (CDRAC) made up of International Code Council Board members and a broad cross section of industry representatives, along with hundreds of Member and stakeholder comments, recommendations have been developed aimed to increase participation and maintain the high level of confidence the code change process is recognized for. ICC Board to Appoint
Membership Council Boards

An initiative to ensure that ICC Members and other stakeholders have ample opportunity to be heard and to engage in codes and standards development is about to launch. At its May meeting the ICC Board will appoint the Governing Committees for the five new, discipline-specific Membership Councils: Building Officials; Fire Service; Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas; Sustainability; and Global. The Governing Committees will lead the Membership Councils to promote a cross-discipline approach to advising and assessing the code development process as volunteers apply their expertise to further the association's public safety mission working through more than 100 technical committees or councils. Appeals to 2010 IECC Disapproved; Final Decision Rests with ICC Board

At a public hearing in Chicago, an International Code Council Appeals Board recommended disapproval of three appeals related to the 2010 International Energy Conservation Code Final Action Hearings held October 28–30, 2010 in Charlotte, N.C. Pursuant to Council Policy CP-1, the Appeals Board's decision will be reviewed by the ICC Board of Directors, who will make a final decision. Click to continue.

The proposed changes to the International Green Construction Code and the International Swimming Pool and Spa Code that will be heard during the Code Development Hearings in Dallas are available for download. In accordance with Council Policy 28, new and updated membership information must be received no less than 10 days prior to the first day of the Code Development Hearings in Dallas in order for Members to exercise their voting privileges.   Arizona City Hosts Free Building Permit Class for Renovating Home Owners
Spring is "Home Sweet Home" improvement for many homeowners in Glendale, Arizona, where the Building Safety Department is seeing a remodeling permit boom---resulting in a 35-percent increase in residential permits and 22-percent increase in solar permits in the last year. The city is offering consumers a special class on how to stay safe and save money during renovations. The class will teach residents how to get a permit for construction projects, an explanation of why permits are necessary, how to fill out the required paperwork and what the possible costs are associated with these projects.   NCARB Selects Armstrong As Next Chief Executive Officer
The National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB) has selected Michael J. Armstrong, Senior Vice President of Membership and Outreach Services at the Code Council, as its next Chief Executive Officer, effective June 2011. During his four years at ICC, Armstrong's leadership has included oversight of testing and certification programs, Member support, Chapter relations, marketing, communications, and meetings. "Mike's leadership has been instrumental in our efforts to achieve the vision, mission and values of our organization," said Code Council CEO Rick Weiland. "His new leadership role with NCARB will only enhance the Code Council's relationship with the architecture community, and our collective efforts to create safe and sustainable communities across the U.S. and around the globe."   Martin Presenting Education Course at Green Building Focus Conference
Shawn Martin, Director of Industry Relations for the Code Council, will present an education course "The International Green Construction Code: What it Means to You" during the Green Building Focus Conference & Expo April 20-21 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Other education sessions include "High Performance Building Monitoring and Reporting," "Sustainable Design in Industrial Architecture" and more. All tracks carry Continuing Education Units.   ICC Chapter Grant Funds Free Swim Lessons for Toddlers
Free swimming lessons are being offered in Boulder City, Nevada, for children age four and younger thanks to a grant from the Southern Nevada Chapter of the International Code Council (SNICC). The SNICC reported that 37 Nevada children had drowned in swimming pools in the last four years---many of them toddlers. In response, the organization has been giving out $1,500 grants to help municipalities such as Boulder City start free swimming programs. Click to continue.
