Submit New or Updated Voting
Information No Later Than April 18

Online registration is open for the Code Council's Group A Code Development Hearings April 29-May 8 in Dallas. To vote at the Dallas hearings, ICC Members must submit any new or updated membership information to the Code Council no later than April 18. There is no cost to ICC Members or others to register to attend the hearings. By registering in advance, voting credentials for ICC Members can be verified before delegates arrive at the hearings.
In addition to the hearings, attendees are invited to participate in an educational tour of the Dallas Cowboys Stadium on April 28 and earn ICC and AIA CEUs. The expert-led tour will examine engineering and architectural features including the retractable roof, retractable five-leaf, clear glass walls in each end zone, and historical features.

Code Council Certifies 700th
Master Code Professional

Danny Hawkins, Deputy Building Official for the city of Fort Pierce in Port St. Lucie, Florida, has become the 700th person to earn the prestigious International Code Council Master Code Professional certification, joining an elite group of building and fire code safety professionals.


Tornado Recovery Council Eyes Stronger Codes, Safe Rooms, Shelters

As some Alabama jurisdictions continue to recover following a rare January 23 outbreak of 11 tornadoes that claimed two lives and caused an estimated $30 million in damages—less than a year after the April 27, 2011, Super Outbreak of tornadoes that caused 248 deaths and an estimated $3 billion in damages—state officials are eyeing ways to plan, organize and build better and stronger for future disasters.


Increasing Participation and
Using Technology to Do It

The ICC Steering Committee on Remote Participation gathered in Chicago for a day and a half of discussions about options for using technology to increase access and participation in the code development process. In response to Membership demand for greater access to ICC's process, Code Council Board of Directors President Bill Dupler appointed this diverse committee to guide the organization in determining how that best can be accomplished.


Washington, D.C., Adopts
2012 Construction Codes

Mayor Vincent C. Gray announced that the District of Columbia will be introducing new Construction Codes by March 1, 2013. The updated Construction Codes will keep the District at the national forefront of sustainable building practices for all new and renovated residential and commercial buildings. The District's Construction Codes incorporate most of the model codes issued every three years by the International Code Council.


First Guide to IgCC Provides Insight
to Design, Construction, Inspection

The International Code Council and Delmar, part of Cengage Learning, have released the construction industry's first support publication referencing the 2012 International Green Construction Code to be released this spring.   ICC-PMG Presents at Local ASPE Chapter
Bob Guenther, former Director of PMG Mechanical Programs for ICC in Whittier, California, presented a condensed version of the "Significant Changes to the 2012 International Mechanical and Fuel Gas Code Changes" at the American Society of Plumbing Engineers (ASPE) Orange County Chapter of California technical meeting. Jay Peters, Executive Director of the ICC PMG Group; Shawn Martin, Director of Industry Relations; and Lee Clifton, Director of Plumbing Programs, also attended.
 
  Moinian Named Senior VP, ICC-ES Growth Strategies & Certification Programs
ICC-ES announced the promotion of Shahin Moinian, P.E., to ICC-ES Senior Vice President, ICC-ES Growth Strategies and Certification Programs. As the leader of the ICC-ES PMG team, Shahin optimized the certification process, reduced certification time for clients, and enhanced customer service for product manufacturers.

  IAS Special Inspection Agency Accreditation Training for New York City
IAS is conducting a training event April 11-12 in New York City to assist special inspection agencies in preparing for accreditation. The course will also provide information on manuals, procedures and forms that are required to comply with IAS Accreditation Criteria AC291 and NYC Department of Buildings requirements. This session is designed for both technical and administrative members of special inspection agencies that are seeking to become accredited as well as firms who are already accredited but wish to expand their understanding of quality systems. This training session is approved by the Practicing Institute of Engineering for 12.0 PDHs for both Professional Engineers and Registered Architects for fulfillment of NYS Mandatory Continuing Education requirements. The deadline for registration is March 28.
