Industry Experts Honored for Contributions
to Safety in the Built Environment


The Code Council honored industry experts for their contributions to safety in the built environment during its 2013 Annual Conference in Atlantic City, N.J.: National Institute of Building Sciences President Henry Green received the prestigious Bobby J. Fowler Award. Code Enforcement Officer Laura Rouse-DeVor received the Gerald H. Jones Code Official of the Year Award. Deputy Fire Marshal Fulton Cochran was honored with the Fire Service Award. The Butte County, Calif., Department of Development Services Building Division and the Federal Emergency Management Agency received Community Service Awards. American Wood Council South Central Regional Director Dennis Pitts accepted the Affiliate Award. Development Services Technician Susan McLendon received the ICC Raising the Profile Award. International Code Council Members elected board officers and directors during ICC's 2013 Annual Conference in Atlantic City, N.J. Stephen D. Jones, CBO, was elected President. Online Code Change Submittal Deadline Extended to January 10, 2014
To give interested parties more time to become familiar with cdpACCESS, and because of the year-end holidays, the Code Council has extended its Group C online code change submittal deadline to January 10, 2014. cdpACCESS is ICC's new online component of the code development process that will be used for all activities for the Group C Code Development Cycle. The Group C Committee Action Hearings will be held April 27-May 4, 2014, in Memphis, Tenn. Continue reading story

Significant Code Changes to the 2012 International Building Code
Parking garages, as well as other types of structures where motor vehicles are involved, present some unique characteristics that are addressed through the special provisions of Section 406. The sizes and operations of parking garages vary signifi cantly, and such differences are uniquely regulated. The varying requirements have now been reformatted to allow for the provisions to be more clearly applied to the correct situation. Those parking structures that fall outside of the scope of Section 406.3 regulating private parking garages are now identiļ¬ed as public parking garages. Continue reading story
