California Governor's Office of Emergency Services Coordinating to Support Local Jurisdictions Impacted by Earthquake
The Office of Emergency Services activated its operations centers to dispatch state resources and provide assistance to Napa county. Volunteers have been told to stand by for details and not deploy. Support also is available from the ICC Disaster Response Network. Jurisdictions can access a database of volunteers to assist with building damage assessment, inspections and other code-related functions. New ICC Western Regional Office Open for Business
The Western Regional Office recently moved from the Whittier location to 3060 Saturn St., Suite 100, in Brea. Minutes from the Orange Freeway and the Brea Mall, the new, state-of-the-art facility will enable ICC to better serve Members and customers with codes, standards, products and services to help building safety professionals create better buildings and more resilient communities. The facility will house ICC, ICC Evaluation Service and International Accreditation Service staff. The relocation of the office was complete at the end of August, and staff can't wait for you to visit and show you around. Read more

Hawaii Governor Abercrombie Signs Bills to Benefit Building and Fire Safety
Hawaii Governor Neil Abercrombie recently signed two bills into law that establish new certification requirements for fire protection systems and appliances and adds funding to staff the State Building Code Council. SB2300, Act 165 authorizes the State Fire Council (SFC) to certify individuals to meet minimum standards of competency to conduct maintenance testing of fire protection systems and appliances. The certifications will be recognized statewide and based on current adopted state fire codes and nationally recognized standards.

    ICC ANNUAL CONFERENCE
New Partnership Makes 2015 IgCC Hearings Even More Important
The Public Comment Hearings to develop the 2015 International Green Construction Code (IgCC) beginning Oct. 1, in Fort Lauderdale, take on even more importance with the announcement of a new partnership to develop the 2018 IgCC. The outcomes of the October hearings will influence future editions of the IgCC and ensure the code is on track for the transition to include ASHRAE Standard 189.1 and the LEED green building program in the 2018 edition. The 2018 IgCC will continue to be an important member of the I-Code family. It will be an easier to adopt and smarter code for commercial and mid/hi-rise residential buildings, meeting the needs of jurisdictions, green building professionals and everyone in between. Experts Target Best Practices, Education to Combat Construction Site Fires
A roundtable of experts determined that educating construction workers and property owners and managers on existing safety measures is one of the best ways to combat fires in buildings under construction. The roundtable, initiated by the International Code Council, National Association of Home Builders and National Multifamily Housing Council, brought together code and fire officials, contractors and others with technical expertise to review an outbreak of fires in buildings under construction that recently caused major property damage and personal injury.

ICC Announces Enhancements to Certification Combination Designations
The Code Council's Exam Development Committees for the Certification program have been reexamining the combination designations. The changes will affect the Master Code Professional (MCP), Certified Building Official (CBO), Certified Fire Marshal (CFM) and Certified Code Official (CCO) designations.

Approximately one week after the completion of the 2014 Group C Public Comment Hearings, ICC Governmental Member Voting Representatives and Honorary Members can log in to cdpACCESS and vote on the results from Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Significant Changes to the 2015 International Residential Code
The 2015 International Residential Code (IRC) requires sunrooms to comply with AAMA/NPEA/NSA 2100-12. The standard contains requirements for habitable and non-habitable sunrooms. These structures were typically constructed in one of two manners: 1) Using typical wood framing techniques or 2) Using a stick system that consists of prefabricated framing of aluminum, fiberglass, wood or other materials, with glass or opaque wall or roof panels, and steel or aluminum connections. Using the 2012 IRC, the first technique was done in accordance with the provisions of the IRC for wood framed construction.
