Retired Fire Chief Charlie Miller Remembered for Professionalism

Retired Fire Chief Charles (Charlie) Miller died February 2; he was 74. Chief Miller began his career with the Clayton Fire Department in 1963 where he proceeded through the ranks to the position of Fire Chief where he served until his retirement in 1999. A Past President of the Missouri Association of Building Officials and Inspectors, Miller also served as a Board Member of the International Code Council legacy code organization Building Officials and Code Administrators International. He was a founding member and instructor of the Greater St. Louis County Fire Academy, and a founding member of the Missouri Fire Marshal's Association. Continue reading story

ICC Supports NIST Disaster Resilience Efforts
The International Code Council (ICC) is helping the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) reach out to ICC Members and building safety professionals throughout the industry to attend a series of workshops devoted to developing a comprehensive, community-based disaster resilience framework. The NIST Disaster Resilience effort begins April 7 with the first of six workshops that will focus on buildings and infrastructure systems, and inform development of private-sector standards and codes. Building Safety Month Coming in May
Building Safety Month is scheduled for May with a theme of "BUILDING SAFETY: Maximizing Resilience, Minimizing Risks." Building Safety Month is a public awareness campaign supported by ICC and its members to help individuals, families and businesses understand what it takes to create and sustain safe, sustainable and resilient structures. 2014 Group C Committee Action Hearing Schedule Announced
The hearings to develop the 2015 International Green Construction Code will begin at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 27 in the Memphis, Tenn., Cook Convention Center. Prior to the hearings the Building Official; Fire Service; Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Officials; and Sustainability Membership Councils will be holding meetings on the mornings of April 26 and 27. Significant Changes to the 2012 International Building Code
The use of 1/2-inch wood structural panels installed on the walking surface side of a floor assembly is now permitted as an alternative to the thermal barrier typically required where foam plastic insulation is installed within a floor assembly. Continue reading more on this update.
