ICC Evaluation Service and Underwriters Laboratories Unveil Two New Programs

Evaluation, Certification Program on Building Products Introduced

ICC Evaluation Service, Inc (ICC-ES) and Underwriters Laboratories (UL) announced a partnership to provide the building materials industry with a Dual Evaluation and Certification Program on building products. Together, the trusted ICC-ES Mark and the highly regarded UL Mark will demonstrate to tens of thousands of regulators, building officials, architects and insurers that the building products and systems they inspect, design and insure are compliant with appropriate codes and product safety standards. The Dual Evaluation and Certification Program simplifies the testing and evaluation process for manufacturers. more>>

PMG Listing Program Unveiled

ICC-ES and UL also established a Dual PMG Listing Program for PMG products, which will provide code officials and construction professionals with a reliable means to verify that PMG products comply with applicable codes and standards. Jeff Smith, General Manager of UL's Global Water & Food Business, said, "This strategic alliance leverages the shared strengths of UL and ICC-ES: credibility, integrity, technical expertise, and brand recognition. We at UL are excited to be working with ICC-ES to bring added value and convenience to this industry." Mark Johnson, President of ICC-ES, observed, "UL's reputation for product safety, combined with ICC-ES's nearly 80 years of experience in evaluating products for code compliance, means this program will provide regulators and manufacturers with a service of outstanding quality." more>>

PMG Listing Boosts High-Velocity
Air System

You're familiar with movies or TV series showing burglars or spies crawling through a building's duct work to gain access. Better hope they don't encounter a building equipped with the Unico System, whose heating and air conditioning ducts are one-quarter standard size. What makes The Unico System different "is all about how we deliver the air," said Craig Messmer, director of engineering for the 29-year-old HVAC manufacturer. more>>

Evaluation Committee Highlights

The ICC-ES Evaluation Committee considered new proposed acceptance criteria for alternate products and for products where additional clarification is needed in the code; and for existing criteria that need to be revised to reflect current code, updated standards or changes to products. Twenty-four separate items were considered, with 19 being approved and five held for further study when the committee met October 6–8 in Los Angeles. more>>

Studor's Innovative Air Admittance Valves Receive ICC-ES PMG Listing

Studor Mini-Vent, Maxi-Vent and Tec-Vent Air Admittance Valves have earned recognition of code compliance from ICC-ES under ICC-ES PMG Listing #PMG-1025. "These vents can be used in lieu of expensive and complex open-pipe plumbing vent systems that penetrate the roofs of buildings," said Studor President Jack Beuschel. more>>

PMG Listing Adds to Shower of Success for Quick Drain USA

Josef Erlebach is not the kind of guy who "goes with the flow." A veteran professional tile setter, he took a long, hard look at the traditional round shower drains he once labored over—and came up with a better idea. His version of a low-profile linear shower drain pays homage to the Roman baths of more than 2,000 years ago—yet is so novel it's taking the bathroom- fixture business by storm. more>>
