ICC-ES Meets Customer Needs to Get Products to Market Quicker and Code Official Acceptance

A new expedited service serves to directly meet the growing market entry needs of ICC Evaluation Service applicants and clients. Other enhancements include a "SIPs Lite" evaluation process to speed the issuance of reports for these products and an expanded photovoltaic rack and mount evaluation program.

"As part of our commitment to respond to the needs of current and future ICC-ES customers while maintaining the quality and technical excellence, I would like to take a moment to share with you some of the initiatives that have been introduced during the past several months," said ICC-ES President Shahin Moinian. ICC-ES Evaluation Reports Accepted by L.A. Department of Building Safety

The city of Los Angeles Department of Building Safety now accepts ICC-ES Evaluation Reports for many product categories without requiring the city's own Research Reports. Included in the list are non-structural or fire-life safety alternate building materials and products listed with acceptable current evaluation reports.

ICC-ES, Simpson Strong-Tie Work on 2012 I-Code Compliant ESRs

ICC-ES has worked with numerous report holders throughout 2012 to update their existing ICC-ES evaluation reports (ESRs) to show code compliance with the 2012 I-Codes. Simpson Strong-Tie has taken a progressive role in updating several of their existing ICC-ES ESRs to the 2012 code requirements.

ICC-ES Provides MiTek USA with Streamlined Evaluation Reports

This year, ICC-ES streamlined its evaluation process to quickly and efficiently provide manufacturers with confirmation of code compliance. Structural connector manufacturer MiTek recently required updates to pre-existing ICC-ES ESRs, to reflect changes in the 2012 codes, and ICC-ES provided evaluations of the structural properties of five of MiTek's existing evaluation reports.

ICC-ES Recognizes Innovative Solutions to Stair Rail Safety Concerns

ICC-ES recently issued ESR-2295 to EZ Stairs for a newly redesigned stair bracket. Designed specifically for stair construction and code compliant rail post support, the standard stair bracket was modified and tested for lateral load stair rail post support for cut stringers, angle stringers and for other applications. The bracket provides an innovative solution to stair rail safety concerns.

Are You Ready for the Mandatory Measures
in the New Green Building Codes?

For decades, manufacturers have demonstrated product compliance to the family of I-Codes through ICC-ES evaluation reports. These reports show that a product has been evaluated to meet the mandatory requirements established by model building codes and enforced by local building officials. Over the past decade, a myriad of voluntary green building rating systems have been developed by multiple organizations. These voluntary declarations by manufacturers are about to change as mandatory declarations of green product performance will be regulated by the same building officials who enforce the rest of the I-Codes.

Selecting the Correct Design Capacity
for Adjustable Steel Columns

Residential construction in the United States typically relies on either wood or cold-formed steel framing. For a typical home, the required size and spacing of these structural elements are given in the International Residential Code (IRC), and an engineer does not need to assess the loads on the structure and determine the size of individual elements. However, many residential structures are more complicated than those addressed by the IRC, and the engineer must then select the building components, in accordance with the International Building Code.

HVAC Duct Enclosure Assemblies—ICC-ES Acceptance Criteria Outlines New Alternatives for Duct Fire Protection

New technologies are rapidly being developed for passive fire protection of ductwork to meet increasingly stringent testing and code requirements. In response, a newly revised Acceptance Criteria from ICC-ES was developed specifically for fire protection of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) ductwork. These criteria provide a means for qualifying new code compliant protection options that will benefit life and building safety.
