Membership Council meetings are slated in Memphis. ICC's Membership Councils will hold meetings prior to the start of the 2015 Group A Committee Action Hearings in Memphis, Tenn. On Saturday, April 18, the Fire Service Membership Council (FSMC) will meet from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. while the Building Official Membership Council (BOMC) will meet from 1-6 p.m. On Sunday, April 19, the Sustainability and PMG Official Membership Councils will meet from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. while the FSMC and BOMC will hold a joint meeting from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. The Group A hearings begin at 1 p.m. on April 19. Friday is the deadline to apply for A call for members for the ASHRAE Standing Standard Project Committee 189.1 Standard for the Design of High-Performance, Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings ends on March 27. Standard 189.1 will become the basis for the technical content of the 2018 edition of the International Green Construction Code. City dedicates Building Safety The city of Tupelo, Miss., has dedicated its 2015 Building Safety Month observance in honor of longtime Chief Building Inspector David Wammack, who passed away March 9 at his home. He was 58. Wammack worked with the city of Tupelo for 23-plus years and also was a member of the downtown design committee. Because of his duties with the city's Development Services Department, Wammack played an important role in Tupelo's economic development, according to City Councilman Lynn Bryan. "He was just a great guy that would always go out of his way to help you," he said. |

Significant changes to the 2015 IRC. Additional requirements and limits for photovoltaic shingles have been added to Section R905.16 of the International Residential Code (IRC). The expanded section now contains requirements for roof decks, minimum roof deck slope, underlayment, underlayment application, ice barrier and underlayment for high-wind areas. ICC-SRCC delivers code Code officials have been asking for training on solar energy systems — and ICC listened — delivering a well-received, solar training session to almost 350 code officials at the Finger Lakes Building Official Association Educational Conference in New York. Leading industry experts Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (ICC-SRCC) Technical Director Jim Huggins and ICC Director of PMG Activities Shawn Martin taught a three-hour course, "Introduction to Solar Water Heating for Code Officials." |

ANSI announces ICC-ES accreditation under pilot programs The American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Accreditation Committee deemed the ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) as eligible Type III Program Operator in accordance with ISO 14020-2000, ISO 14025-2006, ISO 21930-2007 and its internal requirements. Moreover, ICC-ES' Type III as a certification body that verifies/validates EPDs was accredited by ANSI under the requirements of ISO/IEC 17065-2012, ISO 14025-2006 and ISO 14020-2000. ICC-ES is one of the first four entities to receive both eligibility and accreditation for its Type III program under this Pilot Program. |

Moore, Okla., tornado: "We can learn from this." A year after a massive tornado killed 24 and injured nearly 400, the city of Moore, Okla., adopted more stringent residential building codes to protect homes from future storms. In March 2014, the city council adopted 2009 versions of the International Codes along with regulations that specifically address the impacts of tornadoes. "We can learn from this devastating event to build stronger homes and neighborhoods across the United States — and it starts in Moore," Mayor Glenn Lewis said. Read more. |
