cdpACCESS online voting continues.           

Online voting through cdpACCESS, ICC's new cloud-based system for code development, continues through 11:59 p.m. Pacific on May 28. Following the opening of online voting on May 14, errata has been identified and corrected in the system. ICC Members are encouraged to review the errata to determine if the corrected information impacts their vote. Any vote can be changed at any time prior to the voting period closing on May 28. The results of the online vote will be included in the Report of the Committee Action Hearing that is scheduled to be available June 5. Successful assembly motions will result in automatic public comments at the 2015 Public Comment Hearings Sept. 30-Oct. 7 in Long Beach, Calif.

 
 
     
 

Wyoming celebrates Building Safety Month 2015.           

A special signing event for the Wyoming Governor's 2015 Building Safety Month Proclamation was held at the state capitol in Cheyenne. Members of the Wyoming Conference of Building Officials and Wyoming Association of Fire Marshals were treated to a tour of the historic state capitol building, culminating in the presentation and signing of Wyoming's proclamation by Gov. Matthew Hansen "Matt" Mead.

Significant changes to the 2015 IFC.           

The addition of Section 907.2.11.7 to the 2015 International Fire Code (IFC) provides an option for using a smoke-detection system in lieu of single-station and multiple-station alarms in Groups R-2, R-3, R-4 and I-1. A wish comes true in Alaska.           

Code Council Board of Directors member Greg Wheeler welcomed Matthew Wander to the ICC Family by presenting him a membership lapel pin during the Alaska State Fire Marshal's 8th Annual Fire & Building Officials Forum in Anchorage. Wander, who has recently battled serious health issues, traveled from his home state of Texas to meet with local code officials and discuss common experiences they share in the fire service. Thanks to generous donations and members of the Alaska State Troopers, Wander was able to realize his dream of visiting America's 49th state.

 
 
     
 

Summit plants the seeds of sustainability and resiliency.           

Twenty city leaders from across the nation met with industry experts in Aspen, Colo., for two days in May to get a better understanding of how resiliency can go hand-in-hand with sustainability. And the International Code Council was there.

ICC webinar update: simplified wall bracing.           

This webinar provided an explanation of the 2012 International Residential Code simplified wall bracing requirements. It focused on basic requirements and steps through the process of applying the simplified wall bracing procedure.

 
 
     
 

IAS board to meet in British Columbia.           

The next IAS Board of Directors meeting will be held May 26 in Richmond, British Columbia, in conjunction with the Annual General Meeting and 60th Annual Spring Education Conference of the Building Officials' Association of British Columbia. The conference will cover many topics, including BCBC energy-efficiency requirements, alternative solutions for building officials, and understanding and crafting building bylaws. IAS President Chuck Ramani will present to conference attendees, and IAS board members will visit IAS-accredited laboratories in the Vancouver area to observe large-scale fire and electrical tests.

 
 
     
 

IAS Special Inspection training scheduled in New York City.           

The International Accreditation Service (IAS), an approved New York City Department of Buildings (NYC DOB) accreditation provider, will conduct training July 8-9 to assist special inspection agencies in preparing for accreditation. The training provides information on manuals, procedures and forms required to comply with AC291 and NYC DOB requirements. Click here for more information and to register.

 
 
     
 

Register for ISO/IEC Standard 17025 training.           

The International Accreditation Service (IAS) is offering two training programs to help you learn to apply the ISO/IEC Standard 17025 requirements in your laboratory. ISO/IEC Standard 17025—Complete Overview Training Program, scheduled for June 3-5, and Measurement Uncertainty Requirements in ISO/IEC Standard 17025—Training Program, scheduled for Aug. 3-4, will both be held at the IAS Headquarters in Brea, Calif. Slouthour honored for leadership.           

Wilbur Slothour, owner and field administrator at Land and Sea Services in Aspers, Pa., is the Gettysburg Adams Chamber of Commerce 2015 Small Business Person of the Year. Slothour opened Land and Sea Services, Adams County's only Pennsylvania-certified, third-party, inspection agency for commercial and residential construction, in 2004. Under his leadership, the business has seen steady growth and now oversees inspections of approximately 300 projects in 17 municipalities annually.

 
 
     
 

Richland County reaches certification milestone.           

Richland County, S.C., an ICC Governmental Member, celebrated a technology milestone last week when it was officially recognized as the nation's first "Certified Connected" capital county. The recognition was part of a Connect South Carolina program on the impact of broadband in the state at the Darla Moore School of Business on the University of South Carolina campus. To be certified, the county was required to study and document a number of key parameters relating to the access, adoption and use of broadband Internet.
