Third edition of National Green Building Standard available.

The ICC/ASHRAE 700-2015 National Green Building Standard (NGBS) has been approved by the American National Standards Institute and is available for public use. The 2015 edition better aligns the NGBS with the International Codes, expands the application of innovative practices, and builds upon years of building and certifying to the NGBS.

ICC hails Senate passage of Energy Policy Modernization Act.

The Code Council praised the U.S. Senate's passage of the Energy Policy Modernization Act of 2016 (S. 2012), citing the Act seeks to strengthen and expand state building energy efficiency codes. The Code Council's Government Relations staff has been actively participating in efforts seeking passage of the legislation over the past several months, and the bill has many provisions significant to ICC and its Members.

Proposed committee interpretation on 2012 IRC Section R311.7.10.1.

A proposed committee interpretation to Section R311.7.10.1 of the 2012 International Residential Code (IRC) was posted for ICC Membership review and comment on April 19. The review and comment period will end May 19.

"Building Solutions for All Ages" is the theme for Building Safety Month week one.

More than 76 million Baby Boomers, or nearly one-quarter of the estimated U.S. population of 320 million, are nearing or entering retirement and are deciding where they will be spending their golden years. Is the built environment prepared for the generations of those structures, and the generations to follow? The first week of Building Safety Month will address these "aging-in-place" issues.

ICC-ES issues ESR-3575 for solar PV mounting system.

ICC Evaluation Service (ICC-ES) issued ESR-3575 to Roof Tech for its RT-[E] Mount Solar PV (photovoltaic) Mounting system with integrated butyl tape, providing evidence it complies with the code requirements of the 2015, 2012, 2009 and 2006 International Building and Residential Codes.

Code essentials of the 2015 IECC.

Two new mandatory sections in the 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC) state that electrical transformers and electric motors must meet the minimum efficiency requirements of newly added tables. Also, elevators, escalators and moving walks are regulated through a new section in the 2015 IECC.

Have a say in ICC certification and education.

If you are interested in having a say in the governance of the ICC National Certification exams and/or the ICC Education program, now is the time to apply. ICC is issuing a call for new members to its Professional Development Council (PDC), which is comprised of two committees — the Certification Committee and the Education Committee. Each committee is made up of six members, who will meet separately and/or jointly as meeting items warrant. Committee members are appointed for three-year terms; currently there are four positions open on the PDC. The application closing date is June 17, 2016.

New ICC credential coming soon.

As of April 30, the Disaster Response Inspector exam will no longer be available as a new certification. Instead, ICC's Training and Education department will pair the popular When Disaster Strikes Institute with an optional end-of-course assessment for a new credential. Certificate holders may continue to renew their certification. For more information about the Disaster Response Inspector exam, email certexam@iccsafe.org or call 1-888-ICC-SAFE (1-888-422-7233), ext. 5524.

Roblee's experience, confidence and work ethic pays huge dividends for ICC Members.

Many ICC employees come to work for ICC from the construction and code enforcement side, but Roblee comes to Government Relations from the other side. He brings a wealth of experience to the table — from working for the Ohio legislature, managing campaigns, and freelance contract lobbying — when he goes to work promoting codes and standards across the Midwest.
