Proposed changes to the Group B I-Codes available.

The code change agenda for the Group B International Codes is now available. The proposed changes will be heard during the Code Council's 2016 Committee Action Hearings, April 17-27, in Louisville, Ky. View the hearing schedule.

The Group B I-Codes include administrative provisions for all codes, the structural chapters in the International Building and Existing Building Codes, the building and energy chapters in the International Residential Code, and all chapters in the International Fire, Energy Conservation and Wildland-Urban Interface Codes. Update your 2016 voter representative information.

ICC's Electronic Voter Validation site is an easy-to-use online portal to check and update your 2016 Governmental Member Voting Representative information. Please keep in mind that your Member status and 2016 Voting Representative information must up-to-date by March 18 in order to participate in the Group B Committee Action Hearings, April 17-27, in Louisville, Ky.

Louisiana building safety professional Wich joins ICC team.

Michael Wich, the Director of Building Code Administration and Chief Building Official for the South Central Planning and Development Commission in Houma, La., was appointed to the ICC Board of Directors. Wich leads the regional-based code enforcement program that serves six parishes and five municipalities in Southwest Louisiana.

New ICC, SES resources guide the effective creation and implementation of standards.

The International Code Council is collaborating with SES — the Society for Standards Professionals — in the distribution of two key resources designed to assist standards developing organizations and others who utilize or are involved in the standards development process. These two publications, ANSI/SES-1:2013, Recommended Practice for Designation and Organization of Standards and SES-2:2012, Model Procedure for the Development of Standards provide guidance for those interested in the effective creation and implementation of standards.

Top contractors earn first IAS AC478 accreditation for metal building assembly.

Leading metal building assembly companies Thomas Phoenix International, Inc., in Eastampton, N.J., and Merit Builders, Inc., in Rocky Ridge, Md., have become the first to earn accreditation from the International Accreditation Service Inspection Practices of Metal Building Assemblers Accreditation Program.

Code Essentials of the 2015 IFC.

Emergency Lighting. Exit signs and emergency lighting are commonly provided with batteries as the secondary power supply and maintenance of the egress lighting is critical in providing for a safe evacuation of the building. The 2015 International Fire Code (IFC) requires that exit lighting is inspected and tested on a routine basis; monthly for a 30-second period and annually for a 90-minute duration.

New publication focuses on updates to Pennsylvania Building Code.

The International Code Council and Pennsylvania Builders Association have collaborated to publish the 2015 Changes to the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code. This new code resource addresses the needs of home builders, designers and code officials by highlighting and explaining the current updates to the Pennsylvania Uniform Construction Code.

ICC updating sustainability leaders at Green California Summit.

The Green California Summit is coming to the Golden State April 21-22 and many of the nation's sustainability leaders will be there to share information on the latest insights and technology, including the International Code Council. Code specialists will brief attendees on the upcoming mandatory changes to the 2016 CALGreen and Energy Code, and gain insight into what might come next.

Get the latest information on the IAPMO copyright infringement lawsuit.

The Code Council created a microsite to provide the latest information about the copyright infringement lawsuit filed in January against the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). The site contains news and updates, copies of important legal documents, frequently asked questions, and other information about the case. Click here to view the site.

Six architects working in six different ways to enhance resilience.

Ten innovative projects that focus on enhancing coastal resilience in Connecticut, New Jersey and New York were showcased in the traveling exhibit "Rebuild by Design". Six winners addressed post-Hurricane Sandy landscapes, ecologies and communities, each with site-specific solutions to not only mitigating future calamites, but identifying ways to work with water rather than against water.

Free BSSC webinar will focus on site factors.

The National Institute of Building Sciences Building Seismic Safety Council (BSSC) will host a free webinar on March 22 to present updates to site factors in the National Earthquake Hazards Reduction Program's 2015 NEHRP Recommended Seismic Provisions and ASCE/SEI 7-16, Minimum Design Loads for Buildings and Other Structures. The presentation will address the changes to site coefficients, and revisions that affected the final version of those coefficients.

EPA awards grants to students for innovative sustainable projects.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced P3 grants to university student teams for proposed projects to develop new, sustainable products and strategies. This year's teams are testing innovative ideas such as repurposing mining byproducts into a corrosion inhibitor, automated hydroponic commercial building roofs, wildland-urban interface fire-resistant design, and sustainable building-integrated materials.

GR Team Profile: Dottie Harris.

Every member of ICC's Government Relations staff came to find their political side in a unique way, but Dottie Harris may have the most unlikely of them all: through dance. Following involvment with student government, the political bug bit her and she turned a dance major into a dance/political science double major, and after graduating took a job in her state assemblyman's office.
