Code Council board acts to resolve conflicting codes on maximum plumbing fixture flow rates

The International Code Council's Board of Directors recently took action to resolve a conflict in the upcoming 2018 International Codes related to maximum plumbing fixture flow rates that resulted from the 2016 code change process. The board's action affirmed ICC's commitment to ensuring that all codes are comprehensive and coordinated.

Beacon building inspector sticks to the plan

New FEMA P-1000 publication on school safety available

The Federal Emergency Management Agency unveiled its latest multi-hazard publication — FEMA P-1000, Safer, Stronger, Smarter: A Guide to Improving School Natural Hazard Safety — which offers actionable advice on how to improve the safety of schools in the United States from various natural hazards, including earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes, tornados and windstorms. It focuses on both operational guidance and on the physical protection of school facilities.

Significant changes to the 2015 IBC

A modification to Section 1803.5 (Investigated Conditions) of the 2015 International Building Code states that requirements addressing the evaluation of rock materials for foundation support have been updated to be more consistent with current geotechnical engineering practice. In addition, basic requirements for providing adequate underpinning and excavations have been added.

Student essay focuses on code officials & community outreach

The Code Council and the New York State Energy Research and Development Authority released the Code & Commentary to the Energy Conservation Construction Code of New York State, 2016 Edition, which assists designers, builders, contractors and code administrators in understanding and meeting the energy efficiency goals of New York State.

TSAPI celebrates 70 years of building safety service

The Texas State Association of Plumbing Inspectors (TSAPI) held its Annual Education Event June 11-16 in Beaumont, Texas, with plenty of opportunities to learn. International Code Council Board Director Shirley Ellis installed the new TSAPI Board officers and incoming TSAPI President Gilbert Urvina of the city of Frisco, Texas. International Code Council Director of PMG Resources Lee Clifton presented "What's New for Non-Potable Water in the 2015 IPC". The chapter was presented a special plaque in recognition of 70 years of exemplary service in the building safety profession.
