WICED and PTN epitomize dedicated women in construction during Women's History Month

Two Code Council chapters — Women in Code Enforcement & Development (WICED) and PermitTechNation (PTN) — held their third annual joint Habitat for Humanity workday before the start of the ICC Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio. These women are known for putting on their hard hats and work gloves and coming together to work on renovating a home for those in need through Habitat for Humanity. Their hard work and dedication shows that the Code Council can make a difference in the communities in which we hold our conferences. The events are an opportunity to get involved and spread the important message of safe, sustainable, affordable and resilient construction in our communities.

In recognition of Women's History Month, read more about these award-winning, community service-minded women in codes.

New partnership will create a national database of volunteers for post-disaster response

The International Code Council and the National Council of Structural Engineers Associations (NCSEA) are joining forces to create a single national database of volunteers willing to assist jurisdictions with building damage assessments and inspections in the aftermath of a disaster. This interactive online database combines information from the Code Council's Disaster Response Network and NCSEA's Second Responder Roster. The two organizations created a disaster response oversight committee consisting of members, staff and Board members to finalize the details for the joint website and volunteer database.

"We are excited to be working with NCSEA on this project," said Greg Wheeler, CBO, Chief Building Official for Thornton, Colo., Secretary/Treasurer of the Code Council Board of Directors, Chair of the ICC Disaster Assessment Ad-hoc Committee and a member of the ICC-NCSEA Disaster Response Oversight Committee. "After a devastating hurricane season and widespread wildfires in California, a national database of building safety professionals is even more crucial to helping communities recover quickly from disasters."

More information about this new database and how you can participate is coming soon.
