Today is the Deadline to Apply for the New Professional Development Council
To further align the goals of the Education and Certification programs, ICC introduces the Professional Development Council. The newly formed Council will be comprised of two committees, the Certification Committee and the Education Committee, which will each be made up of six members. Members are appointed by the ICC Board of Directors for three-year terms, however the inaugural terms will be one-, two- or three-year terms to achieve staggered term requirements. Today is the deadline to apply.

Striking a Fair Balance between Copyright Protection and Public Access

Over the past few years there has been considerable discussion and commentary about public access to adopted codes and standards, and about the tension in the Internet age between a standard developer's copyright interest and the growing public expectation that everything should be available for free online. ICC leadership is aware of the challenges this presents, and we believe there is a win-win solution that is governed by laws that are already in place. Continue reading story





Submit Group C Public Comments Using cdpACCESS

 

The Group C Report of the Committee Action Hearings is available online. Public Comments can be submitted using cdpACCESS through July 16. Visit cdpACCESS.com, log in with your My ICC username and password, and click “Public Comments” at the top of the screen to access this new feature.

Get Involved in the Code Development Process

Your help is needed to ensure that the 2015 International Green Construction Code, the first green code to be developed that is coordinated with the I-Codes, is a safe, resilient, sustainable and energy efficient model code for use in the built environment. The Group C Public Comment Hearings during ICC's 2014 Annual Conference offer you the opportunity to get involved in the code development process.





Code Action Committees Holding Joint Meeting in Chicago

ICC's Building, Fire and Sustainability, Energy & High Performance Code Action Committees will hold a joint meeting July 8-9 in Chicago to develop public comments on the Group C International Green Construction Code and to develop proposed changes to the Group A International Codes that are due in January. The PMG Code Action Committee is developing proposed changes to the Group A codes via a series of teleconferences that continue today, July 15, August 5 and August 19.




Applications Accepted for SEHP CAC
ICC is accepting applications for the Sustainability, Energy & High Performance Building Code Action Committee (SEHP CAC). The term of the committee is for three years. Current SEHP CAC members must apply to be considered for re-appointment. The application deadline is July 11. Read more.

2015 International Codes Provide Flexibility without Compromising Safety

Jurisdictions and other code users can begin preparing for adoption and use of the newest building safety codes. The 2015 International Codes, developed by International Code Council Members and other safety advocates at public hearings using the governmental consensus process, provide flexibility for designers without compromising safety.





Consensus Committee to Consider Public Comments on ICC A117.1 Draft
The ICC (ASC A117) Consensus Committee on Accessible and Usable Buildings and Facilities will meet July 14-16 to consider public comments on the first public draft of the 2015 edition of ICC A117.1. The meeting will be held at the U.S. Access Board in Washington, D.C. Read the meeting notice.


IS-STM Committee Reviewing Comments on Storm Shelter Standard
The next meeting of the ICC Consensus Committee on Storm Shelters will be held July 17 as a teleconference. The purpose of this meeting is for IS-STM committee members to consider comments on the third Public Comments Draft for the development of ICC 500-2014 Standard for the Design and Construction of Storm Shelters. Public Comments Requested for Solar Thermal Systems Draft
The ICC Solar Thermal Standard Consensus Committee has held four public meetings to develop the first Public Comments Draft of the ICC 900/SRCC 300-201* Solar Thermal Systems Standard. Public comments are requested on this draft. The deadline is August 11.


Staff Training Conducted for New Online Plan Review Service
Technical Services staff recently underwent training for ePlan, ICC's new online plan review service. Following some technical upgrades, the new system should be available later in 2014. Once active, the Cloud-based operations will allow ICC to receive plan review projects online 24/7, and collaborate with architects, contractors and code officials with plans and documents in real-time.

NAHB Hosting Next Industry Advisory Committee Meeting
The next meeting of the ICC Industry Advisory Committee will be held July 18 at the National Association of Home Builders in Washington, D.C. A light lunch will be provided courtesy of the Structural Engineering Institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers. The meeting is open to the public. Renovating the Homes of Victims of the Boston Marathon Bombings
April 15, 2013, should have been a joyous day for runners and the cheering friends and family of those participating in the famed Boston Marathon. But it will instead be memorable for the horrific tragedy that took place near the race finish line. What the world witnessed that day led the Massachusetts Department of Public Safety (DPS) to take its mission to the next level by establishing the Boston Survivors Accessibility Alliance.
