Poll Shows Coastal Residents Are Even after the threat of five major hurricanes during the 2008 hurricane season, many Americans in the Gulf and Atlantic coastal states are not prepared for the impending "mean season," according to the 2009 National Hurricane Survival Initiative. A poll shows most residents in coastal states still do not feel vulnerable to the destruction and deadly force that can be brought on by a storm and most have not adequately prepared for coming storms. |

The one-year interim period to use the 2008 New York City Construction Codes or the 1968 Building Code ends July 1. On that date, the 2008 codes will be mandated by the New York City Department of Buildings for all new construction.
