Appointments Made to Member Council Governing Committees

The ICC Board has approved five discipline-specific Membership Councils—Building Officials; Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas; Sustainability; Global Members; and Fire Service—to advocate on behalf of concerns and issues that are of particular interest to each Council.

Farmers Branch, Texas, Building Official Jim Olk was named chair of the Plumbing, Mechanical and Fuel Gas Officials Membership Council Governing Committee. Transtech Engineers Building and Safety Supervisor Ayla Erfigen brings green code experience to her role as ICC Sustainability Membership Council Chair. Steve Shapiro, Deputy Director of Community Development for Hampton, Virginia, and a past ICC Board President, is chair of the Building Official Membership Council Governing Committee.

ICC Board Restructures 2012/2013 Energy Code Committees; Deadline for Applications Is July 1
During its May meeting in Dallas, the Code Council Board of Directors restructured the 2012/2013 Energy Code Development Committees responsible for both the International Residential Code and the International Energy Conservation Code. Colombia Develops Plumbing Code Based on IPC, IPSDC

After an extensive and thorough review process conducted by the Instituto Colombiano de Normas Técnicas y Certificación (ICONTEC), the Colombian National Standards Body selected the 2009 International Plumbing Code (IPC) and the 2009 International Private Sewage Disposal Code (IPSDC) as the base codes to develop the Colombian Plumbing Code. ICC Voices Support for the Safe Building Code Incentive Act

The Code Council—as part of the BuildStrong Coalition—sent a letter to the U.S. House of Representatives voicing support for H.R. 2069, The Safe Building Code Incentive Act. The Act would create a financial incentive for states to adopt and enforce statewide building codes.

  Deadline Approaches for 2011 Code Council Awards Nominations

Nominations are now being accepted for the ICC Awards to be presented at the 2011 ICC Annual Conference, October 30 - November 6 in Phoenix, Arizona. ICC Awards will be presented in several categories to honor individuals and organizations for their accomplishments and service to ICC and the building safety industry.   Sponsored Scholarship Program Application Period Now Open

The International Code Council Foundation opened the application period for the Sponsored Scholarship Program.   ICC Staff Visit Washington; Elected Official of the Year Awards Announced
Last month, to kick off Building Safety Month 2011, the Code Council Executive Board of Directors and staff held meetings in the nation's capital with Congressmen and staffers to discuss the importance of Building Safety Month and to remind them how building codes affected their constituencies and that the ICC was there as a resource to help them in the event of building-related legislation on the national stage. International Code Council (ICC) CEO and ICC Foundation Board President Rick Weiland honored Federal Alliance for Safe Homes Inc. (FLASH) President and CEO Leslie Chapman-Henderson at the ICC Board of Directors meeting in Dallas for effectively managing the overhaul of the Foundation's infrastructure; finding a home for activities such as Project H.E.R.O.; advancing Building Safety Month, the Code of Honor Program and the Corporate Roundtable; and establishing alliances with well-known figures such as HGTV's Mike Holmes and Danny Lipford. Since partnering with FLASH, the Foundation has evolved into a robust vehicle for engaging stakeholders and informing the general public of the importance of strong building codes to the overall safety and sustainability of the nation's housing stock.
