IAS and BOABC Sign Service
Recognition Agreement

The International Accreditation Service (IAS) and Building Officials Association of British Columbia (BOABC) signed a Service Recognition Agreement that outlines specific steps to introduce the IAS Building Department Accreditation (BDA) Program to building departments in the province of British Columbia. The signing took place in Richmond, British Columbia, during a week of activities that included BDA Lead Evaluator Training and the BOABC board meeting.


Take Advantage of Upcoming Training Events

IAS offers training in many quality-related areas that have proven value to testing and calibration laboratories, inspection agencies, the structural fabrication industry and manufacturing companies. IAS training programs are custom-designed for the target audience and use a variety and combination of teaching techniques. Based on experience, IAS recognizes that a practical approach using real-world examples, student interaction and hands-on activities provides the most effective learning experience. IAS is offering training on New York City Department of Buildings Requirements for Special Inspection Agency Accreditation on April 11-12 in New York City. IAS is also offering its once annually ISO/IEC Standard 17020, May 14-15 and ISO/IEC Standard 17025, May 16-18, both in La Habra, California.


California Building Officials Celebrate 50th Anniversary

The California Building Officials (CALBO) celebrated its 50th anniversary at its Annual Business Meeting in Universal City, California. In recognition of its golden jubilee, IAS President Chuck Ramani (right) presented CALBO President Rick Renfro with a plaque congratulating a long history of protecting the lives and properties of the citizens of California. IAS Quality Manager Preet Bassi delivered a training presentation during the general session on how building departments can use the IAS accreditation programs to approve companies to work in their jurisdiction based on the requirements in the International Building Code. IAS also welcomed the opportunity to interact with the CALBO members at the exhibitor's expo.


Fabricator Accreditation Presentations Available to ICC Chapters

IAS Fabricator Program Manager Sandi McCracken and IAS Marketing Manager Greg West (pictured left) presented on the IAS Fabricator Inspection Accreditation Program to ICC's San Diego and Ventura Chapters. The presentations provided an overview of how building departments can use the IAS accreditation program to approve fabricators to work in their jurisdiction based on requirements in the International Building Code. IAS Presents to Southern California Fire Prevention Officers

IAS Quality Manager Preet Bassi (pictured left) and Marketing Manager Greg West presented on the IAS Fire Prevention and Life Safety Department Accreditation Program to the Southern California Fire Prevention Officers Association at its January meeting in Beverly Hills. The California Fire Prevention Officers Association is part of the California Fire Chiefs Association and a Chapter of the ICC.


IAS Launches Food Safety Accreditation Program

IAS convened a task group comprised of the IAS management team, IAS technical assessors and subject matter experts in food safety. The task group met at the Food Microbiological Laboratories, Inc. in Cypress, California. Serving as the interim chair of the task group, IAS Chief Technical Officer Pat McCullen explained that the purpose of the task group was to develop a new IAS Food Safety Accreditation Program. During the daylong event, the task group was briefed about current IAS programs and initiatives and the requests from several entities in the U.S. and abroad for IAS to establish a food safety accreditation program.


Pacific Accreditation Cooperation Executive
Committee Meeting Held in Los Angeles

Los Angeles was host to the mid-year meeting of the Pacific Accreditation Cooperation (PAC) Executive Committee (EC) and Multilateral Recognition Arrangement (MLA) Management Committee. The meeting was held February 18-20 in Redondo Beach, California.


IAS Presents Accreditation Certificate at
Laborers Graduation Ceremony

IAS presented the Training Agency Certificate of Accreditation to The Laborers Training and Retraining Trust Fund of Southern California at its 2011 Apprentice Graduation Ceremony in Asuza, California. IAS President Chuck Ramani presented the certificate of accreditation to Rocco Davis, Vice President-At-Large and Regional Manager, LIUNA PSW and to Scott Gordon, Executive Director at the Laborers Training & Retraining Trust Fund. More than 250 students graduated in the ceremony.
