Board seeks feedback on proposed revision to referenced standards policy. The ICC Board of Directors is seeking feedback on a proposed revision to Council Policy 28. It contains criteria that a standard must meet to be updated to a subsequent edition in the International Codes. ICC's Industry Advisory Committee submitted the proposed revision during the Board's meeting at the 2015 Annual Conference in Long Beach, Calif. The proposal seeks to ensure transparency and the ability of stakeholders to review currently referenced standards as they are being updated by Standards Developing Organizations. There are more than 1,400 standards referenced in the I-Codes. Click here to submit feedback. |

Deadline approaching to submit feedback on committee request. In accordance with Council Policy 7 Committees and Members, the American Wood Council has requested that the ICC Board of Directors establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the feasibility of new products such as Cross Laminated Timber and Structural Composite Lumber for the construction of buildings in excess of the current height limitations outlined in the International Building Code. In response, the ICC Board is soliciting feedback from stakeholders and interested parties relative to the establishment of such an ad hoc committee. Five appointed to ICC Validation Committee. During its meeting in Long Beach, Calif., the ICC Board of Directors appointed five individuals to serve on the International Code Council Validation Committee (ICCVC): William L. Dupler, Chair, Chesterfield County, Va.; Neil Burning, National Association of Home Builders; Steve Orlowski, Building Owners and Managers Association International; John Terry, State of New Jersey; and Steve Thomas, Cherry Hills, Colo. The ICCVC is responsible for oversight and certification of the results of the Online Governmental Consensus Vote. In this role, the committee reports the results to the ICC Board, either confirming a valid voting process and result or citing irregularities in accordance with Section 10.2 of Council Policy 28. |

Number of ICC Master Code Professionals continues to grow. The achievement of the Master Code Professional (MCP) designation from the International Code Council is the highest level of ICC Certification and has become the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the building and fire safety profession. Currently, there are more than 820 MCP professionals worldwide, and their achievements are a benefit to the code enforcement profession, as well as their communities. |

Code expert returns to ICC team to support seismic safety, structural resiliency. Susan M. Dowty, P.E., S.E., brings more than 25 years of experience in the administration, development and interpretation of building code provisions to her new position with the International Code Council. Working in the Government Relations Division as a Regional Manager, she will provide support to ICC members, clients, chapters and agencies. She is a previous California Building Standards Commission member and a former staff engineer for the Code Council's legacy organization in California. |

Significant changes to the 2015 IRC. A clarification has been made to Section R311.1 (Means of Egress) of the 2015 International Residential Code (IRC). The required egress door of a dwelling unit must open directly into a public way or to a yard or court that opens to a public way. |

ICC participates in PMI Executive Fly-In. Code Council CEO Dominic Sims and Government Relations Vice President Chris Ochoa were among the participants in the 2015 Executive Fly-In hosted by Plumbing Manufacturers International in Washington, D.C. The two-day event brought together company executives to meet with Congressional policymakers and leaders on Capitol Hill, as well as representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Department of Commerce and other agencies to discuss water-related issues including conservation and efficiency and public health and safety.
