New publication includes 2015 I-Code solar
energy provisions, SRCC standards.       

The 2015 International Solar Energy Provisions (ISEP) contains the complete collection of solar energy-related provisions from the 2015 International Codes (I-Codes) and industry standards of the ICC Solar Rating & Certification Corporation (SRCC) in one document. With the growing demand for solar energy projects, the ISEP will greatly benefit the solar energy industry, code officials, first responders, architects, engineers and builders by providing a single, organized source of solar thermal and photovoltaic safety code provisions in one publication available as a hardcopy book and PDF download. Committee recognized for
work to align IgCC, 189.1, LEED.       

Members of the committee working to complete the collaboration of the International Green Construction Code, Standard 189.1 and LEED were recognized by ASHRAE President Tom Phoenix at the Society's 2015 Winter Conference in Chicago. International Code Council Senior Vice President of Technical Services Tom Frost served on the committee.

Preferred Provider Program growing to provide training.       

In just three months, the International Code Council Preferred Provider Program (PPP) has attracted almost 160 education providers. A collaboration of ICC Chapters, industry, and other education providers supported the launch of the ICC Preferred Provider Program in November with the objective of creating an easily accessible network of extensive training opportunities for ICC Members and others seeking to renew certifications and advance their career through training. The program makes available vast training offerings from a variety of resources, providing access to ICC-approved training on codes and standards, building construction, building products, administration, legal and management, and design-related topics. FEMA releases Building Science Branch review.       

The report says the 2015 I-Codes reflect the most advanced building science construction methods and practices to achieve resiliency, safety, innovation and affordability in the built environment. It also states the I-Codes are a set of construction codes that address building, fire, plumbing, mechanical, fuel gas, property maintenance, zoning and energy efficiency.

Significant changes to the 2015 IFC.       

Essential electrical systems must comply with IBC Chapter 27 and NFPA 99. This addition provides a clear path for the designer to know which standards apply when he or she is designing an electrical emergency and standby power system for a Group I-2 occupancy. Los Angeles Basin Chapter
recognizes IAS president.       

Los Angeles Basin Chapter of ICC President Ron Takiguchi presented an award recognizing International Accreditation Service President C.P. (Chuck) Ramani for his longtime service to the building code profession during the Chapter's 2015 Annual Business Meeting and Banquet at the Museum of Flying in Los Angeles. IAS is part of the ICC Family of Companies and the leading accreditation body for building safety in the United States.

Paarlberg, Tubbs presenting at 2015 ADA National Symposium.       

ICC Senior Staff Architect Kim Paarlberg and Senior Staff Engineer Beth Tubbs will be among the presenters at the 2015 ADA National Symposium May 10-13 in Atlanta, Ga. The Code Council is a sponsor of the 19th annual symposium that has advanced discussions and activities on the Americans with Disabilities Act. Keynote speakers include U.S. Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) and Michael Morris, Executive Director of the Burton Blatt Institute.

14 earn coveted ICC Master Code Professional status.       

The achievement of the Master Code Professional (MCP) designation from the International Code Council is the highest level of ICC Certification and has become the gold standard for demonstrating proficiency in the building and fire safety profession. Currently, there are more than 700 MCP professionals worldwide, and their achievements are a benefit to the code enforcement profession, as well as their communities.

ICC Member Hoigard
named president of RRJ firm.       

Code Council Member Kurt R. Hoigard, P.E., SECB, has been named president of Raths, Raths & Johnson, Inc. (RRJ), an engineering, architecture and forensics consulting firm. Hoigard has been a key leader of RRJ both as an engineer and principal for the past 29 years. As the firm's new president, he will be responsible for corporate operations while continuing to serve clients as a project principal and industry expert.

Colorado Chapter holds Annual
Business Meeting and installation banquet.       

More than 70 Colorado Chapter of ICC Members recently assembled in Colorado Springs to conduct their annual business meeting, present 2014 Chapter awards and install new officers. Members celebrated 61 years as a Chapter and receiving the ICC Chapter of the Year award the second time in five years.

Regional Manager Dave Nichols acts as a
resource, sounding board for ICC Members.       

ICC GR Regional Managers serve as liaisons and advisors to the Chapters, Members and customers in their respective assigned states. Dave Nichols interfaces with 26 ICC Chapters in the states of Arizona, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming, and enjoys attending and participating in events as well as responding to requests for assistance, information or other concerns.

ESBOF will hold annual conference in Portsmouth, N.H.       

The Eastern States Building Officials Federation (ESBOF) will hold its 66th Annual Educational Conference April 12-14 in Portsmouth, N.H. Course topics will include highlights of the 2015 I-Codes, adopting disaster-resistant construction at the local level, guides to coastal construction for builders and code officials, and kitchen hood and suppression. The conference also will feature an expo and companions program. Click here for registration information. The federation consists of the Connecticut Building Officials Association, Maine Building & Code Inspectors Association, Massachusetts Building Commissioners and Inspectors Association, New Hampshire Building Officials Association, New York State Building Officials Conference, Rhode Island Building Officials Association, Building Safety Association of Vermont, and the Northeast Regional Coalition — ICC Region VI.

Guide offers tools for enhancing
resilience of health care facilities.       

The Health Care Climate Resilience Guide and Toolkit, delivered through the U.S. Climate Resilience Toolkit website, has been created as an initial component of the President's Climate Action Plan that includes recommendations for promoting resilience in the health care sector. The Guide and Toolkit provides key tools and insights to improve the climate resilience of health care facilities at the institution (campus or facility) level, nested within the broader context of regional and community infrastructure.
