NACo Pledges Support for CBCAG Legislation

The National Association of Counties (NACo) unanimously adopted a resolution supporting the Community Building Code Administrative Grant (CBCAG) legislation during its Annual Conference in Nashville. NACo passed a similar resolution of support last year. The bill, when approved by Congress, will provide grants totaling $20 million per year to add resources, training and technology for code enforcement agencies. more>>

Code Hearing Schedule Available

The 2009/2010 ICC Code Development Hearing schedule is available online. Each Code Committee will begin its code development hearing immediately after completion of the previous hearing, unless noted otherwise on the schedule. Hearing start times are tentative. As noted on the code development schedule, the code change proposal monograph will be posted online on August 24, and CD copies of the monograph will be mailed for delivery on or about October 3. Green Construction Codes Can Lead to Sustainable and Safe Communities

As jurisdictions around the world pursue the goal of creating greener, more sustainable communities, the enforcement of a consistent, regulatory framework such as the International Codes will ensure safety as well, Code Council COO Dominic Sims told delegates at the Green Building Focus Conference and EXPO. more>>

Code Council Forms Partnership with WaterSmart Innovations

The Code Council is the newest WaterSmart Innovations partner, and supporter of the most comprehensive urban water efficiency conference in the world. The WaterSmart Innovations Conference and Expo, slated for Oct. 7–9 in Las Vegas, is presented by the Southern Nevada Water Authority in conjunction with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense Program. more>>

Are You Qualified to Install Sprinklers?

Builders, plumbers and other professional contractors who do well on the Code Council's Residential Sprinkler Installer Examination can demonstrate their qualifications to install in accordance with, and their knowledge of, the sprinkler requirements in the 2009 International Residential Code (IRC). The 2009 IRC requires fire sprinklers in all new townhomes when the code is adopted, and in all new one- and two-family residences beginning January 1, 2011. more>>

Developed by the National Association of Homebuilders and the Code Council, the National Green Building Standard, known as ICC 700-2008, provides the "green" practices that can be incorporated into new homes, including high-rise multifamily buildings, home remodeling, hotels and the site upon which green homes are located.
