Disaster Response Network Supports Communities Damaged by Natural Disasters Anticipating the needs of jurisdictions for assistance in the aftermath of the Southern California wildfires and Colorado floods, the Disaster Response Network is active. Jurisdictions can access a database of volunteers to assist with building damage assessment, inspections and other code-related functions. Jurisdictions can call the Disaster Support Hotline at 888-ICC-SAFE (888-422-7233), ext. 5238. More information is available on this page of the ICC website. ICC MEMBER NEWS William Gee to Receive New Jersey's Top Fire Prevention Award William Gee, deputy marshal for the Ocean County, N.J., Fire Marshal's office, was named fire prevention officer of the year by the New Jersey Fire Prevention and Protection Association. A Stafford Township resident and former Beach Haven Volunteer Fire Co. chief, Gee was nominated for his proactive work in promoting home fire safety, especially among the senior population, who may have difficulty getting out of a burning building. ICC NEWS NASFM Board Updated on ICC Initiatives and Activities International Code Council CEO Dominic Sims and other representatives met with the National Association of State Fire Marshals (NASFM) Board of Directors during NASFM's 2013 Annual Conference in Indianapolis. NASFM Board President Bill Degnan of New Hampshire invited ICC to the meeting to address questions from NASFM members and to give an update on ICC initiatives and activities of interest to state fire marshals. The discussion focused on matters related to the adoptions of the International Codes, specifically the inclusion of the residential fire sprinkler requirements in the International Residential Code. ICC TECHNICAL SERVICES ICC Issues Calls for Codes and Standards Council and Committees The Code Council is accepting applications for its Codes and Standards Council (CSC), Code Technology Committee (CTC) and three Code Action Committees (CACs). The CSC advises the ICC Board regarding applications for codes and standards related committees. The CTC provides a forum where pressing issues of new technology and current code provisions can be thoroughly discussed. The CACs are code discipline specific committees that identify opportunities to improve and enhance a particular International Code or portion thereof. Continue reading story |

Drip edge was not previously required for the installation of asphalt shingles unless it was part of the roofing manufacturer's installation instructions, which must be followed for installation of all roofing materials in accordance with Section R905.1. INDUSTRY NEWS American Society of Civil Engineers Names New President-Elect American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) members have elected Robert D. Stevens, Ph.D., P.E., AICP, F.ASCE, as the society's new president-elect. The first ASCE technical region director to be elected to this position, Stevens joined ASCE in 1961 as a member of the student chapter at the University of Akron. Throughout his distinguished career, he has served on 38 ASCE and Transportation and Development Institute (T&DI) committees.
