California Fire Marshal Hoover Earns Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award
California Fire Marshal Tonya L. Hoover will be honored with the 2014 Excellence in Fire and Life Safety Award for her history of courage, determination, and dedication to fire and life safety. The award, created by the Code Council and the Fire & Life Safety Section of the International Association of Fire Chiefs, will be presented in August during Fire-Rescue International 2014.

Call for ICC Board Candidates
In accordance with ICC bylaws, elections of officers and vacant positions on the Board of Directors will be held Sept. 29 at the 2014 Annual Business Meeting. Candidates must submit a letter of interest, resume and any other information that supports their candidacy. The Nominating Committee will interview candidates at a time and place to be announced. To assure an interview, materials must be received by July 31.

WOBO Celebrating 30 Years at ICC Annual Conference
The World Organization of Building Officials (WOBO) Board of Governors meeting will be held in conjunction with the ICC Annual Conference Sept. 28-Oct. 1 in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. WOBO was founded to satisfy the need for an organization of building officials to deal with issues on a global scale. The first meeting was held June 3-8, 1984, in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada, as part of the first international Building Officials World Conference.

Louisiana Adopts IPC Statewide for All New Construction
Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal signed legislation that will replace the state's plumbing code effective Jan. 1, 2016, with the International Plumbing Code (IPC) published by the International Code Council. The Louisiana legislature approved changing the state's plumbing standards to a new code based on the IPC instead of the Louisiana Plumbing Code. Changing the decades-old Louisiana Plumbing Code to a new code, the state legislature voted to require that both residential and commercial plumbing would adhere to the IPC.

RESNET Collaborates with ICC to Help Home Builders Transition to the 2015 IECC
The Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) announced its collaboration with the International Code Council in an effort to help home builders transition to the new 2015 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC). In the upcoming version of the residential building code, RESNET's HERS Index will be an optional compliance path—some people are saying that this compliance path represents the most significant change coming to 2015 IECC.

Significant Changes to the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code
Functional lighting control testing is now required as a part of the commissioning process. For most large commercial projects, this testing requirement is similar to the standard closeout/punch list procedures. The significant change is that the design professional is responsible for identifying the party who will do the testing, the plan reviewer is responsible to see that the party is named, and the inspector now has a contact to ensure compliance prior to approving the final occupancy.
