Busy 2014 Ahead as the Challenge of Protecting the Public Never Diminishes

It was good to see everyone and meet new Fire Service Membership Council (FSMC) Members at ICC's 2013 Annual Conference in Atlantic City, N.J. The Group A and B codes, including the International Fire Code (IFC), have now been finalized for the 2015 editions. Congratulations to all who participated in the process.

However, no sooner does the 2015 code development cycle end before the 2018 cycle begins. During the upcoming year ICC will be making a call for Members to apply for the various technical committees that need to be staffed for the 2018 codes. Please apply if you are interested and qualified. The ICC and our FSMC are only as strong as the Members who represent the fire service and serve on these technical committees. These proposals were the product of input by the fire service and the four Regional Work Groups (RWG). The result of these meetings involved the FCAC submitting 64 proposed changes for the 2015 International Fire Code. Continue reading story

Successful, Community-Based Workshops Nearing Completion
Two trends involving fire damages are at work in the United States these days: the rate of all fires in the nation is on the decline, but the number of wildfires and wildland-urban interface (WUI) fires is rising steadily, a startling fact to many property owners and community leaders throughout the nation; and an innovative national joint initiative that provides a multi-faceted approach to WUI mitigation on the grassroots level.
