Board actions on input from stakeholders regarding the ICC code development process posted

In 2016, the ICC board began a formal process to allow stakeholders the opportunity to provide feedback to the board on the code development process. In May 2017, the board reviewed the feedback and took the actions noted in this report.

In response to a request from the Industry Advisory Committee, proposed changes to CP-28 Code Development for the 2018/2019 cycle are being considered by the board. Submit comments to ICCCodeProcessFeedback@iccsafe.org by Aug. 21.

Board advances ICC mission in California

The International Code Council recently met with industry leaders and stakeholders in Sacramento, Calif., to advance ICC's mission of promoting safety in the built environment.

Notice to Annual Conference attendees

The ICC Board of Directors will meet during the 2017 Annual Conference from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EDT on Sept. 9 at the Hilton Columbus Downtown in the Elijah Pierce Room located at 401 N. High Street in Columbus, Ohio. This year, board business has been consolidated to eliminate the need for a second meeting. Attendees interested in attending the board meeting are advised to plan accordingly. ABM Notice is now available

The official Annual Business Meeting Notice, which includes important information on the meeting, a call for board nominations and proposed member resolutions, is now available. The 2017 Annual Business Meeting will be held Sept. 11 at the Greater Columbus Convention Center in conjunction with the 2017 ICC Annual Conference.

Important reminder: update your GMVRs

All Primary Member Representatives need to designate their Governmental Member Voting Representatives online by August 11 to be eligible to vote at the Annual Business Meeting during the 2017 ICC Annual Conference in Columbus, Ohio.

Significant changes to the 2015 IRC

A modification to Section R101.2, R202 (Scope—Accessory Structures) of the 2015 International Residential Code states that the maximum height for accessory structures has been increased from two to three stories above grade plane. Technical requirements have been removed from the definition, and accessory structures are now permitted to be unlimited in area.

Inspector by day, ninja by night

Glenn Mathewson announced his alter-ego to the building code community — an ICC Master Code Professional and inspector for the city of Westminster, Colo., by day and an "inspector ninja" by night. Mathewson tackled a series of challenging obstacle courses as part of the Denver qualifier of American Ninja Warrior 2017.

Proposed interpretations posted for ICC membership

Proposed committee interpretations to Section 1023.5 of the 2015 International Building Code/ Section [BE] 1023.5 of the 2015 International Fire Code, and Section 713.8 of the 2015 International Building Code, are available for review and comment by ICC Membership until August 16.

Weigh in on community resilience and existing buildings

The Resilience Building Coalition will host a panel discussion "Retrofit Policies & Emerging Resilience Rating Systems" from 1:00-4:30 p.m. EDT on Aug. 9 at ICC's Washington, D.C., Governmental Affairs Office. Resilience policy updates, enhancement of existing building stock, and resilience advancement through rating systems will be addressed. Space for this event is limited. ICC visits Capitol Hill to discuss resilience

The American National Standards Institute presented an expert discussion on Standards & 21st Century Infrastructure in which International Code Council Government Relations Federal Activities Vice President Chris Ochoa discussed the growing list of infrastructure issues confronting our country and how voluntary standards play a significant role in supporting strong, practicable and resilient 21st century solutions.

Vietnamese construction professionals visit ICC's D.C. office

International Code Council Government Relations Senior Vice President Sara Yerkes and ICC Global Services Head Raj Nathan hosted Vietnamese delegates representing the Ministry of Construction, institutes of higher learning and various private-sector consortiums in the Washington, D.C., ICC Governmental Affairs Office.

With more than 300 active in-person and online courses, the Code Council welcomes the Preferred Providers who joined the program or renewed their participation in June.

EPA approves ICC-ES as a third-party certifier

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency approved the ICC Evaluation Service as a recognized Third-Party Certifier under the Formaldehyde Emission Standards for Composite Wood Products Rule. ICC-ES is one of the few organizations recognized to provide these certifications.
