ICC Board is soliciting feedback on the creation of an ad hoc committee for tall wood construction.

In accordance with Council Policy 7 Committees and Members, the American Wood Council (AWC) has requested that the ICC Board of Directors establish an ad hoc committee to investigate the feasibility of new products such as Cross Laminated Timber and Structural Composite Lumber for the construction of buildings in excess of the current height limitations outlined in the International Building Code. As noted by AWC in a recent presentation to the board, these materials are currently being used in the construction of buildings in Europe while design and construction professionals have been increasingly interested in the sustainability characteristics of wood in taller buildings. In response, the ICC Board is soliciting feedback from stakeholders and interested parties relative to the establishment of such an ad hoc committee. Please submit comments via email to Tallwoodfeedback@iccsafe.org. The deadline for submissions is Nov. 2, 2015.

Olszowy: We have a purpose, a vision and an obligation.

Newly elected ICC Board of Directors President Alex "Cash" Olszowy, on the heels of themes from previous board presidents, encouraged Annual Conference attendees to serve as mentors to the next generation of code officials and to lead by example.

"Lead with courage and resolve," Olszowy said during the Annual Banquet at ICC's 2015 Annual Conference in Long Beach, Calif. "Past President Jimmy Brothers encouraged us to 'throw deep.' Immediate Past President Guy Tomberlin challenged us to 'prepare for the next generation.' I am not here to present a new resolve to our Membership, but to piggy back on the great vision of my predecessors: Let's throw deep to our next generation."
