Branson, Mo., Building Inspectors 100-Percent Certified
One hundred percent of the inspection staff within the Building and Code Enforcement Divisions of the Planning and Development Department has earned professional certifications from the International Code Council. "We really saw with the tornado a few years ago, the difference that building codes make," said Planning & Development Director Joel Hornickel. "The buildings that were built more recently, and according to adopted standards, consistently fared better than the older buildings that were built prior to the adoption of these code standards."

First of ICC Roundtables to Examine Construction Site Fires
When the need arises, the International Code Council brings together members, stakeholders and other technical experts to address complex issues in the construction industry. The first of three roundtables, scheduled for July 31 at the ICC Governmental Affairs Office in Washington, D.C., will examine the steps that need to be taken to identify what may be driving a rise in fire safety incidents in multi-family buildings under construction.

2015 I-Code Downloads Include New Redline Version
In addition to receiving a standard PDF showing the code in a two-column format that follows the printed book, purchasers of any 2015 International Code PDF Download will also receive the code in ICC's new Redline format. The Redline Version uses red and blue font, strikeout and underline to show deletions and revisions from the 2012 edition. This valuable tool will help any code user quickly spot changes and determine the specifics of each change.

Be Sure You Know the ICC Code Development Process Deadlines
ICC requires that Primary Representatives must complete an online questionnaire by Sept. 1 for Governmental Member Voting Representatives (GMVR) to be to be eligible to vote at this year's Annual Business Meeting, Public Comment Hearing and Online Governmental Consensus Vote. If a GMVR was properly validated for the 2014 Online Assembly Floor Motion, the Primary Representative does not need to re-validate the GMVR for this Annual Business Meeting, Public Comment Hearing and Online Governmental Consensus Vote, unless there are updates or changes to be made.     CODES CORNER
Significant Changes to the 2012 IBC
The types of special inspection required for anchors cast in concrete and post installed anchors in hardened concrete have been clarified. Because it is sufficient for special inspectors to be present intermittently during installation of the cast-in-place anchors, the code now allows cast-in-place anchors to have periodic special inspection.

NIST Test House Exceeds Goal; Ends Year with Energy to Spare; Meets 2012 IECC
The NIST net zero energy test house not only absorbed winter's best shot, it came out on top, reaching its one-year anniversary with a surplus of energy. It was designed and built to be about 60 percent more energy efficient than houses built to meet the requirements of the 2012 International Energy Conservation Code (IECC), which Maryland has adopted.
