IAS, CPSE Sign Agreement to Develop
Fire Prevention and Life Safety
Department Accreditation

A formal signing ceremony was held between the International Accreditation Service (IAS) and the Center for Public Safety Excellence (CPSE) at the ICC Annual Conference Legislative Forum to recognize their joint effort and commitment to develop the IAS Fire Prevention and Life Safety Department Accreditation Program. Code Council Chief Executive Officer Richard Weiland introduced the event and welcomed signing representatives CPSE Executive Director Paul Brooks (left) and IAS President Chuck Ramani (right). This new accreditation program will formally recognize the fire prevention and life safety departments that have demonstrated technical competence to administer an effective system of code enforcement, fire prevention and life safety. IAS Recognizes Organizations, Jurisdictions at Annual Conference

In Charlotte, code officials from across the nation recognized the Inspection and Code Enforcement Department of Beaufort County (SC), the Development Services Department of San Antonio (TX), and Bureau Veritas North America Inc. for achieving IAS accreditation; and the Center for Public Safety Excellence for its contribution to the IAS Fire Prevention and Life Safety Department Accreditation Program. Building Department Accreditation Takes Center Stage at Conference

IAS experts hosted a number of activities during the Code Council's Annual Conference to highlight building department accreditation around the country. Building code professionals participated in the Building Department Accreditation (BDA) Lead Evaluator training and the Cracker Barrel luncheon. Major Jurisdictions Presented with IAS Accreditation Suite

The ICC Major Jurisdictions Committee learned about the IAS Accreditation Suite, a group of programs that help building departments verify the competence and code compliance of companies working in jurisdictions. Building departments can use the Accreditation Suite at no cost to assist in approval of special inspection agencies, fabricators, metal building manufacturer inspections, testing laboratories, field evaluation bodies and building department service providers.


IAS Metal Building Manufacturers Inspection Program Recognized

The Clark County, Nevada, Department of Development Services, Building Division, formally recognized the IAS Inspection Program for Manufacturers of Metal Building Systems as a means for metal building manufacturers to meet Clark County Building Administrative Code requirements. IAS Becomes Accreditation Body Member of IAF

The International Accreditation Service was accepted as an accreditation body member of the International Accreditation Forum (IAF). IAS membership in the IAF will increase recognition and facilitate acceptance of IAS-accredited product certification agencies' reports in more than 50 countries. Click to continue.


IAS Creates Building Department Registration Program

IAS created a new Building Department Registration Program (RC418) that provides building departments with an administrative/quality management assessment and pathway towards full accreditation. The Building Department Registration Program is based on requirements of IAS's Building Department Accreditation Program but does not entail an onsite peer evaluation.


Bureau Veritas Becomes First IAS-Accredited Third-Party Building Department Service Provider

The Bureau Veritas office in Plano, Texas, is the first company to achieve accreditation under the IAS Third-Party Permitting, Plan Review and Inspection Service Providers Accreditation Program (AC402).   IAS Conducts Internal Audit Training. Internal audit training was conducted for IAS staff to create awareness of the importance of internal audits and how they are properly performed. The training provided a brief introduction to different types of audits (first-, second- and third-party). more>>     IAS Visits Smith-Emery Laboratories. Administrative staff visited the IAS-accredited Smith-Emery Laboratories and were briefed on laboratory operations and the process conducted by IAS representatives during the course of regular assessments. more>>

  Special Inspection Agency Training in New York City. In support of a New York City Department of Buildings requirement for special inspection agencies to become accredited by IAS, IAS Senior Accreditation Officer Sandi McCracken presented a training program on Guidelines to Becoming an Accredited Special Inspection Agency. more>>     Training Provided on Accreditation Standard. Representatives from testing and calibration laboratories, inspection agencies and product certification agencies participated in an IAS training program at Southwest Inspection & Testing Inc. in La Habra, California, on ISO/IEC Standard 17025:2005. more>>

  ISO/IEC 17025 Measurement Uncertainty Training. IAS provided an extensive, two-day training session in La Habra, California, on the Measurement Uncertainty (MU) requirements in ISO/IEC Standard 17025. The ISO/IEC standard is the basis for the IAS accreditation of testing and calibration laboratories. more>>     IAS Offers ISO 9001 Quality Management System Training. Participants received a complete overview of the ISO 9001 requirements concerning Quality Management Systems, an in-depth understanding of internationally accepted quality management system principles, and an introduction to auditing principles during two IAS training programs.

  IAS meets with Abu Dhabi Quality and Conformity Council.
