The Kansas Heart of America Chapter was honored by the Code Council for serving its citizens through disaster assessment and assistance‚ education‚ and community service. The chapter is in the process of launching an online code school to provide continuing education for contractors‚ architects‚ engineers‚ tradesmen and building inspectors‚ and helped Greensburg‚ Kansas‚ recover and rebuild last year from a devastating tornado. more>> |

Four Chapters Earn Merit Awards |
Merit Awards are given annually to chapters that distinguish themselves through activities that demonstrate the goals and objectives of the Code Council. The four chapters receiving 2008 Merit Awards—Michigan Association of Housing Officials‚ Rainier Chapter‚ Tennessee Building Officials Association and Virginia Building and Code Officials Association—went above and beyond in supporting building codes and building safety. more>> |

Region III Welcomes ICC to Minneapolis |
Chapter volunteers from ICC Upper Great Plains Region III and the City of Minneapolis spent countless hours planning multiple events at the Code Council’s Annual Conference. Volunteers from the region coordinated everything from guest speakers to hospitality events‚ and made significant monetary contributions. more>> |

The Code Council’s Ad Hoc Permit Technician Committee hosted its first-ever booth at the ICC Expo in Minneapolis. The booth was provided by the Code Council to help the committee raise awareness of the Permit Tech profession. more>> |

The Atlanta Metro Permit Technician Association (AMPTA) received chapter status from the Code Council’s Board of Directors‚ making it the eighth Council chapter serving the permit technician profession. The chapter’s goal is to provide‚ support and promote education through networking‚ certification‚ professionalism and recognition of membership. more>> |

Code Professionals Care |
Leslie Chapman-Henderson‚ Federal Alliance for Safe Homes CEO and President and Managing Consultant for the ICC Foundation (ICCF)‚ announced new ICCF programs‚ including “ICCF Cares” (working title)—a volunteer initiative to support‚ identify and celebrate volunteer service activities of ICC chapters and members across the country. To kick off the new program‚ Chapman-Henderson challenged ICC chapters to collectively identify and donate 250‚000 total hours of volunteer service during the coming year—the in-kind equivalent of $5 million. To energize the challenge‚ the Foundation is establishing a national day of service as part of the Code Council’s Building Safety Month celebrations in May. more>> |
